I think I read somewhere that they didn't change scouting drone to make it more character specific for readability purposes, although we already have an alternate thing that's functionally the same in Cho'gall's eye.

So Ana free week report: I enjoy playing her, even despite the frustrations of landing skillshots on friendly targets. She's got a ton going on, though, and I'm definitely not skilled enough to keep the assassin game AND the support game going at the same time. This mostly makes her level 1 talents pretty frustrating... I don't think I've fully completed any of them yet, and the partial-completion rewards are pretty meh.

Speaking of Kharazim, I was catching some poo poo for my usual build: Insight > whatever > blazing fists > whatever > fist of fury > echo of heaven > whatever. Is Iron Fist/offensive build actually better for healing and damage? I find with that insight build I can basically keep deadly reach up 100% of the time and mash breath of heaven the second the echo wears off. I guess it's less damagey but for maps like BoE where you can just wail on the immortal and heal up everyone it seems pretty solid.

Never take Iron fists.

I go:
Insight
Earth Ally (the others suck and have no health)
Blinding Speed (because of course)
Seven Sided
Fists of Fury
Way of the Hundred Fists
Transgression if you want/whatever. Depends on the game.

With that setup, you can actually poo poo damage because completed Insight and Fists of Fury synergize such that you actually have 100% uptime on your Deadly Reach, assuming you keep punching nonstop. Coupled with Insight giving you back all your mana, as well, you basically are just spamming both with Breath of Heaven on Cooldown (which cuts down to about 7.5ish seconds?) and Radiant Dash to escape/chase people down. You can poo poo out a decent amount of damage and are great for picking Specialists like Zagara or Sylv who don't have effective escapes (that are better than your dash) and good sustain, and you can mulch weaker assassin types.

Bonus is that Insight also makes your stacks of Dash recharge faster so you literally always have a dash ready to go, for the most part. Because of this, Epiphany is loving pointless at 20, so just boost the seven-sided (which is mostly your "oh poo poo" button to buy time if you're about to die/secure the kill) or take storm shield if you have a squishy team and pop it in team fights.

This is more vs an AA team, if they're really heavy on abilities, you might want to skip Fists of Fury (which really drops the utility of this build) and go Spell Shield instead if you're getting mulched, but in that case you're probably better off going for Echo of Heaven or something, but at that point your build has already fallen apart and this build probably wasn't what you should have gone for anyway. It really depends on your team comp and whether your team is good at actually engaging as a group and tanking... I've had the most fun with this sort of build when there's a Dehaka or Leoric or someone like Gul'Dan around, someone with a lot of sustain that can really piss off the enemy and draw fire while you hop in out of nowhere and speed-beat their squishy target down/force their support to disengage.

But yeah, basically always take Insight... it's just so much better than both of the others once you complete the quest, it's ridiculous.

EDIT: This build is also surprisingly good at scaring away Genji, with super important caveat to be careful to immediately disengage when he Reflects and go attack someone/something else, because holy poo poo you can destroy yourself really quickly because of how fast you're attacking and how Reflect works. Genji and Zarya can be hard counters to this build if their players are smart, in either case if they use their parry/shield you have no other recourse than to just disengage and attack something else, because you can and will either kill yourself or possibly swing the entire teamfight against you if it's Zarya, because the flurry can charge up her battery insanely quickly. Honestly, if the enemy team has a Genji, I test the waters the first few fights until 4 to figure out if they suck or not, then either aggressively go this route and terrorize him or totally avoid this route and go the healing build. If their team has a Zarya, I honestly just go healing build like 90% of the time, because she can pop her shield on your target so quickly that things can go really badly for your whole team if she's smart, so it's not worth the extra DPS.

I find that even if I've had a warmup game on another hero my second game playing Ana is way better than my first in terms of accuracy, and it's because hitting your target requires predicting how your teammates move and it takes a period of adjustment to get into that mindset (I had a Tracer who kept standing still for top-ups once and it actually felt harder to hit her). After a while it almost feels like I'm using the flick reflex from sniping as in some FPS games (like, say, Overwatch) but whatever it is, playing Ana offers a pretty different experience to any other hero in the game.

The L1 pierce talent's partial reward is pretty great in QM because it increases the range so much that you can sometimes begin a fight by sleeping someone far enough away that they won't be immediately woken up by one of your idiot teammates. Also, is it just me or is Auriel the easiest hero to clown on with your grenade? That yellow bar might as well have a Throw Grenade Now indicator mark.

I think legendary announcers are mainly for characters who can offer a bit more personality to their lines, making them funnier and a more unique (no generic "your keep was destroyed" lines). I don't think they have more lines.

Alarak and Cho'Gall would be legendary announcer material, since they would offer something special (Alarak constantly critiquing everything, Cho'Gall can argue with each other) whereas new heroes like a Firebat or Alexstrasza would be epics.

I was kidding, Anubarak announcer is really terrible. If he says "kinky" I might have to come around on it though.

Flavor-wise Alarak is so funny and spot on. Rite of Rak'shir sounds like an honorable duel but in reality you're encouraged to use it at unfair times when your opponent has no chance. Sadism sounds tough but it makes you play really cautiously and in a self-preserving manner. Hilarious and fits his "tough guy" character perfectly.

Sonya is probably the strongest hero in the game right now, and VERY fun. You can split lane while still wrecking in team fights and scaling hard late game.

The consensus from our recent discussion here about the most standard heroes to have available seemed to be:

Tank:
ETC

Solo laner/bruiser:
Sonya

Ranged dps:
Valla

Support:
Rehgar

Spec/free wins:
Nazeebo

Good on all maps with a few exceptions (no Nazeebo on Braxis/BoE mainly)

Game ends too early and you won't be able to stack vile a lot of the time because there aren't enough minions to stack with.

I don't use him on any 2-lane maps for that reason, I should certainly include BoE there... Haunted Mines is more doable if your stupid team lets you lane.

What would be the recommended sub for Rehgar here? I just don't click with him. Kharazim is my most played support.

Also, got Junkrat last night. His damage does feel a bit low until late game. Trap + concussion mine + burstfire was melting just about everything, and whatever lives you just Rocket Ride. I feel like Burst fire is super underated at the moment, and quick cast for the Q is a must.

My initial reaction is...

1) Put some English on it.
4) Taste for explosions
7) Big As
10) Puckish Scamp
13) Bogged Down or Chattering Teeth - Haven't really decided on this one. If I don't take Big As at 7 I'd go with Bogged down.
16) Burst Fire
20) Puckish Scamp

New Insight Kharazim seems flat out stupid. I personally use Brightwing a lot though she's been my favorite for a while.

Rehgar only made sense to me once I learned to take lightning bond on 1 then cast lightning shield on my own totem to clear waves and mercs. That and ancestral are the reasons you play him over other healers.

This works well but it is VERY inefficient on mana. You can also cast lightning shield on a melee minion to save the totem cost.

Taking bond with Rehgar is like taking Fury on 4 with Kerrigan, it's not really negotiable and is a mandatory part of getting full value out of the hero. I'm sure you can win games with wolf run but bond is one of the main reasons he's so good. Try soloing a camp at 2:00 with him to see why.

Kerrigan cleave is way less impactful than lightning bonds. The her wave clear is generally good enough that cleave isn't needed it doesn't add much damage to a team fight.

I am sorry but that is wrong. Never ever play her without cleave. 60% cleave is ridiculous on minion waves where you triple her dps by just having three other minions nearby. Combined with her trait and double strike it is well and truly busted, there's a reason it has ten more hot dog points than her other level 4s. (I expect this talent to get a nerf to 30% at some point, it is too insane).

Sans cleave she is in fact the trash hero the community believed her to be.

bamhand
Apr 15, 2010
I mean you can just use a W and E on a minion wave and achieve the same result. If your team has no other wave clear then sure go nuts. But it's not mandatory every game. And Eviscerate is also really good at 13 if you need to reach their squishy in the backline. If you're comboing 3 people at a time every team fight then sure go nuts on cleave, but if you're only hitting one high value target it literally does nothing.

And I'm not saying cleave is bad, but there are time where you can take other talents.

Wave clear matters in this game... A lot.

For a funny comparison, compare Butcher and Kerrigan's cleave talents:

Level 4 vs Level 13
60% cleave vs 35% cleave
Synergy with combo vs no synergy with combo
Gains shields vs gain no shields

If you have Zag/Kael/Jaina/Guldan/Sylv/Xul etc on your team you prob don't need the additional wave clear of cleave. If you have Genji and Raynor then yeah you probably want more wave clear. Like I said if you're nailing multiple people with your combo every team fight then cleave is great. If you're hitting that one squishy hanging out in their back line then cleave does nothing for you.
