Nice snow boots for Canadian winters. Made mostly in quebec. Not the most stylish but for winter chores, to play outside with my kids or to go to and come back from work they are hard to beat.

Pretty much what Sorel used to be before they were bought by Columbia

I bought my first Sorels a few years ago and was pretty shocked (and bummed) when I found the MADE IN CHINA on em. Not sure why they're still so expensive.

Are there any split-style ergonomic keyboards that are a) cool looking, b) use quiet mechanical switches, and c) aren't hellaciously expensive?

I had my eye on an Ergodox with custom-printed keycaps, back in July, but holy poo poo is that a lot of money (and I missed the deadline to order the keycaps, which wouldn't have shipped until February 2018, anyway ...) Plus the Ergodox has the spacebar and enter key in a really weird place, which probably would have been tough to get used to.

Do I have any other alternatives?

Cause people buy them without thinking. It's what they've been buying since they were kids and they have a reputation of being great. They are not bad, but not anywhere close to as good as they used to be. You could keep a pair for 10-15 years or more if you took care of them, now if you get 5 years out of a pair you're lucky. Oh and they might leak a bit nowadays

I understand most of those, but is the "RUB OUT" button a pornhub launcher macro key or something?

That key requires a teledildonics-enabled system.

Sorry. RUB OUT was just how older teletype and mainframe keyboards did DELETE. No One-Button Wanks, here.

Got an iPad Pro 12.9 and Acer Predator X34 monitor for my birthday (a month ago), and what I’ve learned from those is that 16:9 is loving dead to me and nonstandard aspect ratios rule. The iPad Pro has worked out fabulously as a laptop replacement so far - for 99% of all times I need a laptop, this one does it great. I would probably still recommend a Chromebook for the same purposes if you don’t need a particular software/workflow thing.

It is very nice, though.

2 keyboards arriving today - I feel kinda bad because at least one of them will get returned as I continue my search for the perfect switch.

My Canon inkjet died yesterday when I was trying to fix a clog. I had a spare print head but apparently it was faulty and shorted out the main circuit board.

So I picked up a wireless color laser for $40 off Craigslist: https://www.cnet.com/products/brother-hl-3170cdw/review/ Owner has had it for a year and the toner is half full. I don't print that much, in sporadic bursts, so laser seemed like the right choice since I've had issues with ink drying out in the past.

Welcome to the cheap Brother laser club. Unless they have fixed it in the past 7? Years the wifi will occasionally crash out requiring a reboot. The "airprint" stuff is garbage and will die as well much faster, regardless of wire/wifi connection, same solution. Using it with a generic postscript driver over wired ethernet? Rock solid never dies.

If it ever has a fault make sure you clear it, otherwise it stays on/hot until cleared. Left mine in a fault state for days on accident once when I forgot to clear it after canceling a print job.

Can't comment on it, I am using whatever windows 10 autoinstalled. As long as it isn't doing any persistent background process garbage it's fine. The key is wired + disable airplay/mdns.

(and my printer is 7? 8? Years old. Things may have changed, but mdns printing is awful everywhere on every printer.)

I've got mine set up to print over WiFi, test page worked fine. :shobon: The printer supports AirPrint too, which is p cool.

Tried it in Australia on some toast. Honestly was not a huge fan of that combo but I feel like I could really love it on some other stuff. I just don't know exactly what else to try it on.

I think it's probably good in a lot of things where you want to add a meaty/salty taste.

It's great on toast though if you slather your toast in butter and add only a little marmite. Like that toast in the picture would be loving gross. I'm sure people who grew up with the stuff can get aways with thicker spreads though

I've had Vegemite and it's not bad. It's kinda meatier, but overall it's less of a hard drug. Marmite is pretty painfully intense.

Handcrafted leather wallets are great. I've had my Tanner Goods wallet for a few years, and it has aged really well. It was a bit lighter than the interior seen in the corner here.

I haven’t been that into games outside a handful of PS4 games to play with friends, but I got one and Zelda is the best game I’ve played since SNES. I am no way Nintendo biased and was blown away that I could like a 100 hour long game.
