While I appreciate the movement you're trying to start, we all know this isn't going to be happening for a long while. One thing that could be done is fix our pro scouting. This article has some interesting information. What if Chiarelli is getting poo poo info from his pro scout who only watches Devils/Islanders games? Info like, Adam Larsson is worth a Hall, Griffin Reinhart is worth a 1st and a 2nd, and Strome is a good Eberle replacement? If you're Chiarelli, you have to trust your scouts, right? Surely that can't be though, a team like the Oilers must have qualified pro scouts, hired on ability and meri-

I propose a special rule whereby the Oilers are no longer allowed to pick during the first round of the draft, even if it's another team's pick.

I assumed he meant they were actually awarded the #1 pick via the lottery once, which is accurate.

They were kinda the forerunner to the Oilers though, except they actually picked good players and started a semi-dynasty.

2003: #3, traded up to #1 for MAF
2004: #2, Evgeni Malkin (thank god the Caps hosed up and took the inferior Russian #1 amirite?)
2005: #1, Sidney Crosby
2006: #2, Jordan Staal (they hosed this one up though, Staal was good but they passed on Toews)

eddie johnston said that playing with bobby orr had taught him the kind of impact a generational talent could have on a team and it made him determined to draft lemieux at all costs and not trade away the pick so really its all the bruins fault in the end that the penguins even exist today

Acting like badasses to cover for only really pushing this season when chasing the game, especially against the Central, is not as good a look as Dallas thinks it is. That was dumb & 5-2 is what they needed to take from that.

The Stars look like a great 2007 hockey team. I envy Gallant.

So I don't know if they changed it this year, but I think the reason the rangers have been total poo poo in their own zone is because they basically switched to an all man coverage in the D zone. So you have D up by the point and forwards down low, and it seems like only recently are guys figuring out how to do handoffs, but goodness gracious are there a lot of times where they run around like chickens with their heads cut off. I wonder if this is a ruff thing? It seems like going to a more zonal coverage would help but I guess the bright side is they look like they are just barely beginning to get the hang of it.

Nah the man in the D zone thing has been an AV strategy since he got here. And yeah it's confusing as gently caress which is why the Rangers have often started the season looking like trash. This season has just been even worse though

Jarry played pretty well and it's perplexing that a goalie capable of playing that well was not starting the season with the team instead of Niemi.

Granted whether he can keep that up remains in question but giving the Pens even one quality start is more than Niemi did.

From reading the articles recently, it seems like the Rangers players gave AV a vote of confidence and took responsibility for the bad start themselves. Should be interesting to see how they can adjust and rectify this since they just proved they can put together a decent game against a top team.
