I remember many years ago at Healsville Sanctuary they had a cage full of cockies and Telstra had arrange to have some cables hung up in there with them to test which ones were able to withstand the birds comping on them.

The Ferret’s finely tuned political antenna, aka my tail, is receiving strong signals that Julie Bishop’s entry in the latest Canberra Yearbook now reads The Most Likely to Accidently Become Prime Minister Without Any Real People Getting a Vote. And The Ferret is not the only Major Media Guy to have a finely tuned tail. While M alcolm “What is an Audit” Turnbull has never WhatsApped The Ferret, he did call sandgroper Kerry “Caterpillar” Stokes after hearing whispers the Seven boss was ruminating about the possibility of fellow Westy Lady Bishop moving closer to her Manly-based fella and throwing her active wear in the corner of the master bedroom of Kirribilli House. Obviously The Ferret was not a party to the conversation and so therefore cannot accurately report its contents, or even speculate whether Mal gave him the Full Mundine. But, The Ferret believes Turnbull QC might have politely inquired about where the Stokes loyalty was currently residing.

The Ferret sometimes feels it is unfair to pick on those lower down the food chain so I have studiously ignored a young lass by the lovely name of Miss Daisy Cousens. Now, of course, no one knows who the ferret Daisy is, and I agree no one should care. Buuuut among those mincing around in some right-wing circles she has become somewhat of a pin-up girl. In fact after every appearance on Sky News, where she waxes lyrical about world affairs, she posts a selfie featuring the flowering vintage outfit she wears to wow gobsmacked viewers, and credits the designer. #productendorsement. #whoactuallycares. #yourenoroxy. Anyway, long story short. This is word-for-word what Miss Daisy said on the Bolt Report this week about gay marriage and shop owners: “Refusing service to people, it happens for all sorts of reasons, a couple of months ago in Melbourne an Asian gentlemen who owned a shop refused service to young black males for the simple fact that he had noticed that they had a propensity to commit crime. Should we prevent him from doing that to protect his store because of what he has observed?” Ah, yes Daisy. Yes, we should

Here we go again Power bill savings of $160 a year have been promised by the Queensland LNP as cost of living becomes a major state election issue. The Opposition begins week two of the campaign with a policy to "restructure" the energy sector and abolish subsidies for renewable energy projects. Leader Tim Nicholls said that would cut household power costs by $160 a year for two years, followed by savings of up to $460 a year in 2020. "We are overhauling electricity generators, the poles and wires, and subsidies for renewables," Mr Nicholls said. But the consumer savings would come at the cost of dividends to taxpayers, which have been used for public projects or paying down debt. "It will mean reduced returns from government-owned energy businesses," Mr Nicholls said. Other details of the LNP's energy policy to be released include its already announced backing for a coal-fired power station in north Queensland, and support for solar projects. Both sides have pegged cost of living as a voter attention grabber in this election, with the LNP pledging a freeze on car registration and Labor promising to set up a website to help consumers find out the concessions already available. A week before the election was called, Labor announced it would use profits from state-owned power companies to cut bills by $50 a year, and offer a rebate of $300 for energy-efficient appliances. Minister for Energy Mark Bailey said Mr Nicholls could not be trusted on electricity. "Oh look, we've heard this all before, It's a similar promise that Tim Nicholls made with Campbell Newman and we saw power bills go up $450 in only three years,". "He tried to sell of our power assets and that would have put bills even further through the roof." Mr Bailey said power assets would stay in public hands under Labor. "We've got a fully costed policy cut at $50 over the next two years and an inflation cap to ensure people have surety in case there's blowback from the national electricity market," he said. "Tim Nicholls never stands up to Canberra on anything, and he's signing up here to their national energy guarantee when there's no modelling. It just shows you how weak he is on leadership and how weak he is on electricity."

A constitutional advisory council elected by the people it's speaking for is "not a model that is desirable," said a rich white man. He continued, "What we have is an indiginous voice appointed by the government, which represents our compassion and magnanimity in permitting the First Nations to be heard."
