it sucks because there are actually some interesting ideas in her character and in prism ilya in general, and the idea of a goofy magical girl show staring ilya where everyone is alive and bazett punches things is great, but unfortunately, all of that is in prism ilya

it also has the best content in the franchise for rin and luvia being super competitive and trying to constantly own each other and irisviel being World's Best Mom. kid gil does his usual thing of acting like he's just there to chill and be cute but is actually looking out for the cast in his own way, caren does a similar thing and has the bonus of being a sadist in a lab coat. bazett gets to punch a lot of things and when she ends up broke and stuck in japan the cast coincidentally meets her like 4 episodes in a row doing odd jobs like 'theme park mascot' which makes for great and silly gags. and later, kirei shows up as a ramen chef who only serves noodles with mapo tofu

and before most of these goons show up, the first season does a really good job playing out a 'typical' magical girl plot: young girl struggles with and eventually finds confidence in herself, along the way becoming a source of warmth for an introverted, somber partner. the ost is amazing and has a lot of throwback moments like "fighting saber alter while a souped-up Sword of Promised Victory plays" and "miyu starts to open up emotionally and carries illya home on her back while Ever-present Feeling plays on a harp"

the show is full of catharsis for illya as a character. though illya is noticeably different from her f/sn persona, the writing in the later seasons uses kuro and miyu to intentionally evoke character moments and themes from the VN so that prisma illya ends up effectively 'answering' her own tragedy from the original work and coming into her own as a worthy protagonist. it's really cool and i'm glad the series exists.

coincidentally, the movie is available online as of like yesterday (filez emoticon) so i'm gonna watch it

Yeah, not sure how I feel about the fact that a premier Offensive Arts servant for my Arts teams is gonna be Chloe of all people. Oh well, she's basically a better version of Emiya (who I'm already sorta hoping I get via Okita's banner) that works a lot better with my Arts focus since she has a ST Arts NP instead of AoE Buster.
I'm gonna assume/hope that Orion will more than be able to fill that role for me.

The Prisma series has a lot going for it. The fight scenes are some of the best in the franchise, Luvia and Rin are great, Bazette is a complete badass, and even the main three (Illya, Miyu, Kuro) get good development. The problem is that the OVAs and a large chunk of the first-half of the second season involve Kuro acting like a slut and making poo poo super cringe. Which sucks because Kuro is pretty good as a character after that. It's not hard to see why people write it off though.

Prisma is a legit great manga (and by extension show) when it's not being skeezy. It's just that Hiroyama has zero issues about mixing his fetishes with his storytelling.

(It seems to be a bit of a thing, actually. I've seen other manga do the same, and it's definitely not due to editorial meddling)

Prisma is pretty good, and just about every character gets their chance to be a total badass, but your enjoyment might be hampered somewhat, if you do not like being on several FBI watchlists,

It has a lot of cool stuff, but it also has some bad stuff, and for some people the good outweighs the bad, and for some it doesn't. It's the mental gymnastic equivalent of getting up and walking to the fridge

Not really a lot of gymnastics comparatively speaking. The only actual issue with the series is when Kuro is doing her sketchy bullshit, which is only really an issue in the second season and the OVAs which can be ignored almost entirely. The manga portrayal of the whole kissing thing isn't even a big deal while the anime just goes full bullshit mode with it because Japan.

Aside from that, show is good.

i mean fgo is a game where multiple important, prominent women who lived less than 200 years ago and still have living descendants are turned into big boobed yanderes or tsundere little girls with exposed armpits, but we still like fgo.

To be fair yeah, sure, throwing stones, glass houses, etc. The Prisma Illya Matter is just one of those T-M fanbase arguments that I don't think will ever come to a satisfactory conclusion for either side.

ReDrop draws crazy lewd costumes for the 5* Halloween CE every year.
Also his work: Halloween Princess (aka lewd Iri), Dangerous Beast (aka lewd Mashu).

I wonder if he's trying to surpass himself each year.

Out of curiosity I'll ask this, but it was also my understanding that some degree of a plot point in Prism was that Ilya is crushing on/in love with Shirou, who is her step-brother in that universe. Is that not true or just not a big enough issue to be considered a deal-breaker?

It's as much of an issue as it is in the regular FSN. It's just typical onii-chan trope which is ramped up by Kuro during her hijinks. Also, Mirror Shirou, who is Miyu's brother, is a busted up badass who is right at that pre-EMIYA stage in season three and the movie.

What RanKizama said, plus it's generally played as a joke at her expense. Whenever the focus in on fluffy Shirou and any potential relationships, Illya is a non-entity.

ReDrop is a duo of two artists, Otsumami and Miyamoto Smoke. (Obviously, alases.) And yeah, they do porn. Their art is actually pretty nice though, very colorful.

It'd be neat to see them get to do a servant.

Starting off in porn, doujin or otherwise, is a fairly common way to get your name out there and move onto bigger things yea. ReDrop in the mainstream does illustrations and cover art for some light novel series now as well, which iirc looked like a Haganai derivative. Raita's obviously famous for being the main character and mechanical designer of Valkyria Chronicles. I don't know if simosi (long time colorist at TM and did the designs for Da Vinci, Hessian Lobo, and Mephistopheles) did porn before working at TM, but it wouldn't surprise me either given his original art. Namaniku ATK (Scheherazade) did and probably still does stuff for Nitro+, most notably Muramasa, but is probably better known by way of Chaika. It's a fun trip looking through the list of FGO illustrators sometimes.
