One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has denied she is a dual citizen but says she has not checked with Britain's Home Office.

Responding to rising speculation she was British, Senator Hanson says both her parents were born in Australia although she did have English grandparents on one side of her family.

"I can a.ssure everyone I am not eligible for British citizenship," she said in Gladstone during a regional blitz in the Queensland election campaign.

...

Senator Hanson reportedly told Woman's Day magazine in February 2010 she was relocating to Britain where she could hold dual citizenship

I remember when Hanson moved to England because there were too many Muslims in Australia, then came back almost immediately because there are in fact even more Muslims in London

I was thinking about this the other day. All it takes is a quick google to find the offending statement:

quote:

Former One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson, who made her political name railing against immigrants, says she is emigrating to Britain because there are no more opportunities for her in Australia.

In an interview with Woman's Day, the divisive former federal MP revealed her plans to sell her south-east Queensland property and leave Australia.

"I'm going to be away indefinitely. It's pretty much goodbye forever," she said in the interview.

"I've really had enough. I want peace in my life. I want contentment and that's what I'm aiming for."

The conservative Ms Hanson courted controversy throughout her career in politics, calling for a reduction in immigration.

She also used her maiden speech in Parliament to warn that Australia could be "swamped with Asians".

She remains critical of Australian governments, saying politicians are not brave enough to say what they really think.

"Over-regulation, increasing taxes and lack of true representation are affecting our way of life. I feel very much for the young ones," she said.

"Once it was common for them to own their own home. Not now. It's a harder place. Sadly, the land of opportunity is no more applicable."

Her most recent involvement in politics was her unsuccessful attempt to win the Queensland state seat of Beaudesert as an independent in last year's state election. She also ran unsuccessfully for a Queensland Senate seat in 2007.

"I know I will never be given a chance to re-enter Parliament again," she said.

Ms Hanson told the magazine she will sell her property at Coleyville, south-west of Brisbane, then relocate to Britain where she can get dual citizenship.

"I'm 56 this year. So, while I've still got my health, I want to get out there," she said.

The frog is also an important part of the horse's circulatory system — it pumps blood up the horse's leg each time the frog makes contact with the ground. The blood flows down the horse's leg into the digital cushion, a fibrous part of the inner hoof located just above the frog which contains a network of blood vessels. The horse's weight then compresses the frog on the ground, squeezing the blood out of the digital cushion, and pushing it back up the horse's legs.

Not just that. What kind of "working man with Akubra" wears a loving white shirt and tie anyway? That collar would be stained yellow with sweat in a couple months and the tie would be suffocating in the heat.

Oh wait that's right. It's all just for show. At least he had the good sense not to put creases in his sleeves because that would just crack me up.

Pretty sad neither of them had a drink though. How un-Australian. Even New Zealanders would be drinking so really Barnaby fails all round.

Hanson only spent like two months in England or something before realizing there were too many Muslims there, too, right? She probably didn't bother with the application. It would be glorious if so though.

Julia Banks is back in the spotlight too, apparently her brother has Greek citizenship so she actually is entitled to it? With the highcourt ruling she might be a goner if investigated.

Liberal MP Julia Banks is refusing to explain how she can claim she is not entitled to Greek citizenship when her brother has obtained it.

...

The news raises questions about how he could be entitled to dual citizenship if Ms Banks was not.

...

If Ms Banks is a dual citizen, she would have to contest a by-election in the Melbourne seat of Chisholm which she holds by a slim margin of about 2.2 per cent, threatening the Government’s hold on power.

I can't wait for parliament to resume.

Being entitled to citizenship isn't the same thing as being a citizen though. She would have had to apply for it, same as Carnarvon did for his Italian citizenship.

I've got the same glasses as the prime minister. They were comfortable to start with, but poorly held together and after a while started falling apart. Eventually the cover came off and the shoddy design of the whole lot was laid bare. It's only a matter of time before they are replaced.

The glasses are poo poo too.

I’m fine with screwing over all current politicians under S44, but if Barnaby will retain office through by-Election anyways what’s the point?

We might as well open parliament to dual-citizens, we’re not xenophobic white Australia policy Australia anymore (I think). We should be stopping foreign interest or donations and dodgy back door deals but good luck pushing an ICAC. S44 seems like a moot point when our politicians are being bought anyways.

Barnaby is just one person and while I have no particular love for the man I'd rather people who are supposed to be writing laws actually follow the loving laws rather than rewrite them to suit their purposes when they become inconvenient.

Yes. And punch the guilty pollies in their wallets. It's the only thing they understand and pay attention to.

The constitution says a member should pay a hundred pounds a day for every day they sat while ineligible but some cowards in 1975 changed the rules. RBA's currency calculator says a hundred pounds in 1901 is fourteen thousand seven hundred dollars in 2016 which would have made this even more entertaining

Canavan's mother might have applied for his citizenship. Because of Italy's laws it's somewhat unclear as to whether or not Matt Canavan could possibly have held any realistic suspicion that he could have been an Italian citizen.

I think that's the courts take on it.

This entire debacle has been a great illustration of the fact that you guys loathe your elected representatives so much that enjoying their schadenfreude will overwhelm any sober debate about how we should actually run a country and a system of government. I can't imagine any other scenario in which the posters of auspol would all think it's a great idea to start drawing up lists of suspected foreigners.

IMO it's less about hunting down foreigners and more about reaffirming just how incompetent our politicians are. It's basically everyone enjoying seeing the political class gently caress themselves for once instead of them constantly loving us.
