Dude might even end up getting a job out of it since the message they sent him seemed like they were impressed enough with his ability to get a good model without ever seeing the actual car.

Codemasters claimed to use it as a reference but only offered to pay for his work after being called on it. And they also claimed to use it as a reference but that doesn't hold up when looking at both wireframes. Things were in the exact same place. They didn't just use it as a reference, they slightly modified the model itself rather than setting it to the side and building something that looks like it. There is a huge distinction.

What probably actually happened is that codemasters outsources the models to freelancers and some freelancer got his model and slightly modified it and claimed it was his own, and was paid by codemasters for making the model when he actually didnt.

The original creator isn't asking for money, royalties, or anything. He wanted an explanation of how his many hours of meticulous work made it into a commercial product.

That's a pretty easy fix. They're either a little gummed up or you need to replace the rubber membrane. The controller's really easy to open too, I think it just uses normal philips head screws

According to the linked thread Codemasters did not purchase the model. The artist he communicated with claims they "found it for free on the internet" and offers to buy it on TurboSquid, but at least as of the last time the subject came up said purchase had not come through.

If CM had purchased the model ahead of time and credited the author you are correct, based on the TurboSquid license they'd be legally OK, but so far it doesn't look like they did either.

It's wall to wall clownshoes.
Creator is in breach or trademark from Ferrari, Codemasters actions are shady, can CM even legally buy the thing off turbosquid? I think their legal guys would have something to say about buying a trade mark breaking thing.

I think the US is dumb for not using Celsius
From reading various reddit threads. It sounds like Codemasters hired a contractor who stole the model. The guy who actually made it posted a screenshot of a discord conversation with some codemasters person. I don't know if "codemasters" bought the model, but the person he was talking to said he went on turbosquid and purchased the car as a show of good faith or something and said that's the best he could do. Though I think even that could open codemasters up to a lawsuit. I doubt it would work out well for anyone, but saying sorry and buying the model means the guy is admitting that Codemasters took the model without permission.

I'm in the same quandry.....the thing that's swinging me towards the T3PA's is that the LCs have a very long throw. A someone who has already superglued rubber stops into my existing pedals I reckon it would drive me mad.

If you have Assetto Corsa you owe it to yourself to start racing in Sim Racing System races. Some of them require DLC (like this race) but most are free downloads or just straight up stock content. While some t1 shenanigans occur, most races I've been in are about 95% clean racing the whole race. I experimented with doing a bit of cell phone cam showing my new giant-TV-as-monitor setup mash up for this vid... not sure I'm going to bother in the future. Much easier to just record a replay in OBS and upload.

It's not super, frankly. Only 8 out of 18 on the grid last night were from NA, and the bottom three racers were from the US.

I specifically started racing with the SIMPIT "hosted" (sponsored?) race because Shaun Cole has at least a minor following in the sim racing community, so his races get a bit of turnout. 18 on the grid in this particular race, and that's on a night when Shaun took the week off. Sometimes there's a split due to population. The other races in my time zone? Look mostly empty.

But that's why you nerds need to come out as well!

Every time I've tried to use Sim Racing System it's a god drat ghost town. Every few months either SRS or one of the other services that are trying to do a 3rd party iRacing like schedule for races starts getting buzz again and it lasts at most a week before everyone gives up because no-one's racing at the same time and just go back to league racing.

How do you practice for these races in AC? Is setting everything to Pro default or whatever the highest difficult is fine?

I typically do hotlap practice with it set to Fast track setting. Different races have different allowances for assists, like traction control and ABS and such. That said, in the particular series I'm doing, there's someone doing a 24 hour practice session set to the same settings as the race will be for everyone to drop into during the week leading up to the races, and practicing the day of as well. I have found, however, that the track typically feels very different once I get into the race itself. Still haven't figured out what they are doing wrong with the practice server.

What leagues are you referring to, exactly? Because while there's a single SRS series that is populated in a timeslot I care about, I could always use options. I'm not hip to investing in iRacing, but I'd love to see if there's leagues using other sims that I already own (or would be willing to pick up) if there is an interest out there.

I don't do league racing myself but if you look on most sim racing forums there'll be a section for people to advertise clubs and leagues. Like here's the Automobilista league section and the Raceroom leagues section. Race Department also do club races and leagues but only for paid members and also they'll cancel your membership if you sign up for a league and miss a race.

I signed up for premium for Race Department in the long, long ago, and it was pretty good... but frankly the races they host are typically not my favorite formats. I have a hard time finding the free time to practice a new car/track combo PLUS develop a pit strategy because most of their races are 1 hour plus and require pits and whatnot. I'm more of a "sprint" racer, I guess you could say. I'll check out some more of the forums out there. I probably just haven't been looking hard enough.

Yeah you're unlikely to find 20-30 minute races in any league, touring car leagues might go that short but also do 2-3 races in one night. Most non-endurance leagues I see go 45m to 2h usually.
