Last time we had a recount was Mark Herring's AG election in 2013.

Wikipedia posted:

While the statewide elections for governor and lieutenant governor garnered more national attention, the race for attorney general was the most competitive. Obenshain had an election night lead of 1,200 votes. In the following days, as provisional ballots were counted, Herring narrowed the lead and ultimately overtook him. On November 25, the Virginia State Board of Elections certified the results and Herring was declared the winner by 1,103,777 votes to 1,103,612 - a difference of 165 votes out of more than 2.2 million cast, or 0.007%.

After the certification, Obenshain requested a recount, which began on December 16. Obenshain conceded the election on December 18, and later that day, the recount ended with Herring winning by 907 votes, or 0.04%. With Herring’s victory, Democrats held all five statewide offices — including both U.S. Senate seats — for the first time since 1970.

So last time the Dem's vote margin went up by 900%.

Could be that they're going with who's presently leading. The 4 left to call there refers to the four recounts-- 3 GOP wins, 1 Dem win.

Did I read that map right - Chesterfield county went blue? I grew up there. Nice to see that they went for Northam there. I was under the impression that the Chesterfield area was red but not deep red.

The one disappointment for me tonight is that Kellen Squire didn't win. I'm not too upset, though, since Rob Bell seems to be a pretty decent guy. I've never known him to wade into ugly politics like national Republicans, and what ads he ran in my area were positive. Still don't agree with most/all of his positions, and I'd have rather seen a Dem in there, but I'm OK with Bell.

Gotta figure the Dems most likely take at least 3/5 here given how they tend to do better when you recount and count the provisionals.

Where in Chesterfield did you grow up? Back when I was growing up there, it was a pretty reliably Republican county. The last time I checked tonight’s election tallies, it was in “too close to call” territory.

My favorite quote:

"...Delegate Marshall this year puts in four anti-LGBT bills, five abortion bills. A bill about pornography. A bill that’s saying that ISIS is bad, and by the way, he couldn’t even get ISIS is bad passed in a Republican Subcommittee?! Are you kidding? I mean that’s lay-ups right there. My five-year old could have passed that bill, and by five year old, I mean my cat. I mean, come on, you gotta do better than that."

Seriously, I recommend reading it. She's really impressive.

Oh, I probably misread the map then.

I grew up in the Enon area, so it was probably full of the suburban Republican types. I moved away before I was of voting age, so I have no idea how it tilted back in the '90s when I lived there.
