Silvally has such great flavor. It deserves to be more powerful. Oh well, at least apparently it's good in the trading card game.

The base 100 everythings are all good and statwise Silvally isn't THAT much worse.

The problem is it has a terrible offensive typing unless you spend an item to fix it, has a very bad speed tier because a shitload of things are at 100 exactly, has no actual ability, and has a terrible movepool. Like, think about what makes each of those other pokemon good and what they're actually used for:

Mew: Bulky defogger that has Willowisp and can hit things reasonably hard in a pinch, outspeed slow pokemon and is impossible for a lot of pokemon to KO because of recover/softboiled and high defenses. Not particularly vulnerable to Toxic because of Synchronize. Can also set Stealth Rocks. Silvally does not have Willowisp, does not have any recovery, does not set Stealth Rocks, does not Defog, and doesn't have a useful ability.

Celebi: Nasty Plot setup pokemon with reliable recovery from recovery moves, Giga Drain, and Leech Seed. Can also set rocks. Shrugs off paralysis/toxic that would normally be a big hindrance to medium strong setup sweepers. Silvally has Swords Dance but its physical attacks are worse at coverage than Celebi's STABs. Silvally gets outsped by things Celebi runs Timid to outspeed. Silvally cannot heal itself. Silvally cannot set rocks. Silvally is vulnerable to paralysis and toxic.

Jirachi: 60% Flinch chance Iron Head with 100 base speed. Not even worth discussing other reasons why Silvally is worse.

Manaphy: Tail Glow. Also, like Mew and Celebi has some insurance against Paralysis and Toxic.

Victini: Choice Band V-Create.

1 Bulky tank that relies on having access to reliable recovery and interaction with entry hazards, 1 reasonably bulky setup sweeper that relies on reliable recovery and strong STAB coverage, 1 gimmick pokemon made good entirely by its broken ability and high speed tier, and 2 pokemon that are defined by their access to incredibly good signature moves. Silvally is lacking in all of these categories, on top of its stats being slightly worse in every way compared to the mythicals.

Oh and apparently there are now infinite Ultra Beasts. Ultra Beasts respawn whenever you enter their world.

Not that this means it should belong in AG, but it's worth pointing out that I think Ultra Necrozma does fit the role that Mewtwo fits way better than actual Mewtwo. And it doesn't use up your Mega Evolution slot. The only things faster than it in the tier are Mewtwo variants, Deoxys, and Mega Gengar. Moongeist Beam is an incredibly good coverage move to have in the format, and the fact that both its attack stats are so high means it's pretty hard to cleanly wall.

That said, it doesn't have access to priority, doesn't have a move like Dragon Dance (it can double dance with Autotomize and Swords Dance but that seems questionable), and can't use a Scarf to answer Scarf Tapu Lele, Lunala, or Xerneas, who can all cleanly outspeed and OHKO it. Also comparing it to non-mega Mewtwo is kind of a weak point because non-mega Mewtwo is not actually good in Ubers any more.

E: Lele loses to both Lunalacrozma and Solgaleocrozma if you just choose not to transform into Ultra Necrozma, while Xerneas loses to Solgaleocrozma if you choose not to transform. Scarf Lunala can bust through both forms but is severely held back in the Ubers meta by Marshadow existing. To clarify apparently the way Ultra Necrozma works is the transformation is essentially the same as a Mega Evolution with actually counting towards your Mega Evolution limit, and then you're allowed to use the Z-move any turn after you've already transformed.

I've now finished the main story. The ending no longer forces a battle with Tapu Koko but starts setting up for the post game.

The Ultra Recon Squad initiated the Ultra Beast hunt this time and warped directly to the capture area.

So a dumb and fun thing happened.

I finally got the screen covers for my 2ds xl and bought the VC version of Pokemon Blue and spent my downtime at work today looking up the speedrun route for Nidoking.

Once I got up to the elite four I decided to gently caress around with that 8F glitch that was posted some pages back.

After roughly 2 hours or so setting it up I finally got the GF OT/ID required to be able to port Mew from my game to the Poke Bank and into current gen games.

Got greedy and went back for a second one. Game crashed so I reset and my save file got roasted. Only have the option for New Game now.

It was super fun steam rolling the game with Nidoking and breaking it across my knee though. I wouldn't mind doing it again at all.

Edit: RNG manipulation in the speed run to get Nidoran(Male) early is harder than glitch hacking the game to get a "legit" Mew.

Alright, I just got done playing Episode RR. It's like the Delta Episode in ORAS and starts post-credits. About 2 1/2 hours of content.

I was only prompted to catch a pair of Stakataka (once again never called by their code name) and Looker hasn't shown up. There's still the ultra wormhole which might have the other beasts, but I don't think his event is in.

The Battle Agency has the player pick a Pokemon from those displayed at the reception desk. Two more pokemon are selected by choosing two friends from streetpass or trading. There's then a 3 v 3 singles match. I've only played a forced battle so I can't say how much it develops.

I'm probably going to get Ultra Moon when it comes out, but I have to admit I finished Pokemon Sun with a bad taste in my mouth. It has all the best base mechanics, it has a cool little world neatly segmented into environments and regions, but it bottlenecks me constantly and every ten steps I have an obnoxious cutscene to get through. It gets really bad when Lillie becomes essentially all-consuming of every scene and the game becomes almost entirely about her and I become a side-character in my own adventure.

Should I assume that the Ultra games will still be as bottlenecked and cutscene-heavy as the original Sun/Moon?

first island is just as bad as original other than slicing off a portion of the start (thankfully), i'm on the 4th and it's been ten steps -> lillie cutscene like you said since 2nd visit to aether island. the cutscenes are bad.

Yes. From what it sounds like, the game is nearly identical to Sun and Moon, so they didn't get rid of the railroading, and Lillie is still bad.
