One of the things about the way the US goes to war now is that most troops go their entire deployment without speaking to an Afghan. Most of the soldiers are support personnel who stay on whatever base they are on, and the most foreign people they speak with are the Pakistanis and Ugandans brought in to clean the base, perform maintenance, and work in the kitchen. I will say that I am not impressed by what I have seen of the Afghan military, and have to wonder if we're not simply backing "our" local warlord instead of their's.

Doubling down on a losing horse however doesn't do anything but double your losses.  I hear Abdul Rashid Dostum, the Uzbek warlord, Turkish proxy, and Afghan Vice President is going to return to Kabul soon. He has been in exile for raping a provincial government official for the last year. This is actually the second time he has had to flee the country for raping a political rival. A friend of the American people, no doubt. And I hear the recently pardoned "Butcher of Kabul" is planning on getting back into electoral politics?
