I think a good line of attack for superPAC ads in Alabama would be: - Play clips from the Hannity interview. The worst ones. Just Hannity asking the question and the answer ("not generally, no" and "I don't dispute that"). No additional narration or commentary. Then at the end, "Roy Moore. Wrong for Alabama. Wrong for America." ("Wrong for America's underage daughters") -Attack Moore's judicial actions that supported sex offenders and pederasts, with the newspaper clippings and blurry shots of a courtroom in the background. You don't even have to go at the current allegations, just stuff that's in the public record.

I heat up water to roughly 200 F, and then I grind a ratio of roughly 18:1 beans to water with my burr grinder (I measure my beans and water with a scale accurate to 1 mg). Then I “brew” my coffee for 2.5-4.5 minutes depending on if I’m using a standard pour over or a chemex, using a Japanese made (I think) long neck kettle that lets me gently pour water with minimal agitation.

i like how the election broke people's brains about polling. the polls were right about hillary's margin. if someone told you before election day she'd win the popular vote by several million you'd assume she won the presidency right?

The reason that Moore is so cagey about his statements is the he knows there are a shitload more victims out there waiting to disprove any specific denials, right?

Quorum posted:To expand on this, in 2018 there are only two possible pickups for Democrats that aren't a huge stretch requiring a Dem wave even larger than in Virginia or a Roy Moore-style fuckup, or both: Arizona and Nevada, one an open seat with Flake's retirement and one held by Heller, the most vulnerable Republican in the Senate. These are both well within the realm of possibility. All other defending Republicans are in safe seats, and the next most vulnerable senator is Ted Cruz, so three pickups are almost out of the realm of possibility. So if Moore had won, as we'd previously expected, that would leave the Senate at 52-48, meaning the absolute best the Dems could manage is a 50-50 tie broken by Pence. But if Moore loses, then there's an outside chance the Dems can make it to 51-49, shattering the administration's power to appoint or legislate beyond repair. Now, that's still a very tough fight, because it requires defending seats in states as red as West Virginia, Montana, and Missouri. But those are winnable with the power of incumbency and a Virginia-scale blue wave, maybe. So don't count on it at all, but it might theoretically be doable. If you get to 50/50 you also open the possibility of a Republican Senator switching to vote with the Democrats. Unlikely, but it happened to Republicans partly because Bush insulted Jeffords. And if there was ever a President to insult a Senator...

Dipped into the boycott tag on twitter and it’s filled with people ripping into the right for being so drat stupid. And I’m pretty sure we touched base on this before but GOP are the absolute WORST at boycotts vs the left. I know people who adamantly refuse to go into Walmart’s on the left (myself included) for over a decade as these shitheels can’t even properly turn off their TVs for a few hours to stop watching football

The easy way to tell if a company is actually hurt by the rightwing boycott is to watch their reaction to it. Every big company will have people trying to track sentiment and they'll make decisions based on whether or not the people throwing a fit are their target customers. If they are, they'll weigh actions that'll mollify those people, if they're not then no action will be taken.

The Governor picks a replacement from the state GOP to serve until the next statewide elections. At that point, there are primaries for the new Senate seat. If that statewide election is before 2022, then the winner only gets seated for the remainder of McCain's original term. In 2022, there is another Senate election with primaries and the winner of that gets seated for the normal 6 year term as usual.

It wasn't so much a "protest" as an enforcement of power dynamics. They believe they have the necessary money and social clout to control any and all situations in their favour. When they go to a Starbucks and order something "in protest", they are signifying their elevated social position in relation to the often minimum-wage workers who are forced to serve them. It is not so much meant to draw attention to themselves, but rather to cause unavoidable embarrassment for the others. Starbucks the company might've benefited, but the persons involved did not. It wouldn't really be that much different from how, after all this time, they still remain with enough clout to keep majority-minority high schools named after Confederate figures and slaveholders. To them, that would be the entire point of it all.
