I like to go ranged heavy against goblins, still. entangle dont mean poo poo when your arrows are doing most of the work. Focus fire down the Overlore and Shaman and then either deal with the remaining gobbos the same way or, if your dudes are badly hurt fall back and return with your brawlers

Did the dlc mess up the map seeds?

Apparently map layouts are the same, but companion stats are now different.

Makes sense, assumably it added a random element that pulls from the RNG (probably "should I place any lindwurms?") before it draws stats for companions, shifting everything after that draw so their index in the seed is different from before it was implemented

Focus fire down the Overlore and Shaman and then either deal with the remaining gobbos the same way or, if your dudes are badly hurt fall back and return with your brawlers Shamans are kinda bullshit, and might have helped me kick my addiction to this game because having two of them appear in every moderately sized Goblin lair in the late game got old pretty fast. Goblins without Shamans can mostly be dealt with by wearing heavy armor. Still need to get rid of the ones that can puncture (which also means not engaging Ambushers in melee unless it's very unlikely that they'll survive the turn), but the regular Goblins can easily be outmuscled. Of course, before you actually get heavy armor, Goblin fights are simply gonna be dangerous and often not worth the risk. They're highly accurate and their weapons deal good damage, it's only their armor penetration that mostly sucks. e: I think fighting Orc Warriors and Goblins is a trap in the midgame/before day ~50 in general. They're a huge threat and they don't drop the heavy armor you want to start collecting, which you can get from Brigand Leaders, Legionaries, Honor Guards and Fallen Heroes. And the good loot you do get from them is dropped by Orc Young and Berserkers as well, outside of poison. Wizard Styles fucked around with this message at 20:36 on Oct 24, 2017 |

vyelkin posted:The only real "trick" I know of against goblins is that you can abuse their absurdly high initiative to your advantage in the first round. They're so fast that every goblin will go first and they will all wait, hoping you will come into range so they can shoot you. If you then tell every one of your bros to wait, the goblins will wait again (rather than advance) and end all of their turns. You can then charge your entire squad forward four tiles. That puts you in missile range of the goblins and gives them a free round of attacks, but then once you get round to your guys' initiative on round 2 you'll be within range to charge into melee. If you don't do the waiting trick, they get two free missile rounds instead. Thank you for this. It worked out. I saw this tip earlier but didnt quite understand it. My first attempt i just sat there while the overseer whipped the poo poo out of his men. My brothers did not sign up for gobbo bdsm.

Am I the only person sperging out in a bad way over the hilly/mountain maps? The way bros move and what is costs are not intuitive, and I end up wasting the abilities I plan to use Also, have anyone fought Lindwurms and are they awesome? :iamafag:

What do you do against groups of only goblin ambushers?? The only solution that works well is letting a large group of dogges go, but they'll sometimes kill enough of them to escape or at least make the play not worthwhile.

Well I just had the most fun battle. Undead crisis, I'm tasked to defend a town against siege. First battle with the undead goes swimmingly, not a single militia member lost, so they increase their numbers. Second undead attack and there is a nearby company from another town. I waited until they were in range and engaged the undead. My mercs, the militia and the company. Versus Ancient Legionaries. 41 versus 11. Update: 4 sieges later and the last siege the town company initiates combat first. I join the battle to assist and the Militia isn't with me, it's about 12 hexes ahead of me towards the enemy. Militia doesn't wait, charges headlong into combat. The town company waits. I yell at my men to get moving as quick as possible to save the militia. My men arrive just as we see the last militia member cut down and the lord's men join battle. Oh wait! There are still some militia lef-... Nope, they're coming back as weidergangers. Still, killed em off, made a cool 6k. Donkringel fucked around with this message at 22:59 on Nov 5, 2017 |

Yea, that part of the militia getting their butts kicked was... worrisome Question, there was one town siege event where the town put the militia directly under my control (and I could direct their armanents to a limited degree). How is that siege event triggered?

Just played this for the first time. It's really good! Exactly my kind of thing. How are you supposed to get contracts in the early game though? Everywhere I go, they're locked out, and I'm just burning through all my money trying to find one I can do. (Or will be, when I start again, because my whole company just got wiped by some seriously over-equipped brigands.)
|
# ? Nov 12, 2017 16:42 |

Might be an oddity of your seed. Basically villages and similar will give you contracts early, keeps, mottes, castles, cities etc won't until you complete an ambition about building a rep I think? So depending on what settlements are around at all, you could be stuck in a hard place.

Hey, is there any reason not to try for a 'we need to be paid more than this' on every single contract? Does it have any kind of deleterious effect in the background, on your reputation or whatever?
|
# ? Nov 13, 2017 13:49 |
|
You can lose reputation with the faction/town and even lose the contract if you press to much. Rule of thumb for me is to ask for more once and accept it afterwards. Related: You can "accept" the terms of the contract and then say that you have to think about it. It's mostly useful to check distances to other cities for courier/escort missions.

But do NOT ask for more after the first ask, because people get really mad.

iirc someone sperged on the math and it is much, much better to get the full reputation increase from not bartering if you plan on visiting that town a lot.
|
# ? Nov 13, 2017 14:23 |
|
Then again, there's running costs to think about in the short term.
|
# ? Nov 14, 2017 07:26 |
|
you can sometimes get substantially more based on the modality of your ask - doing a patrol for heads, for example, can get you a lot more sometimes. beyond that, the reputation is more worth it even if you don't plan on visiting very often. negotiation will rarely get you more than a few extra crowns before things get iffy. if your operating costs in the short term are being cut so close that those few crowns will matter, you have hosed up pretty bad.

Which are better in your opinion, Battleforged or Nimble duellants?
|
# ? Nov 15, 2017 19:18 |
|
Better reputation means better prices for buying and selling items, so it's worth at least taking contracts as-is from whatever village or city you prefer using as a "base" in an area. Think about how often you buy tools and food or how much random junk you sell and it becomes clear pretty quickly that it doesn't take long for a few extra gold per item to add up and become more valuable than an extra payment on a contract.

Goddamnit my first try into Veteran Ironman didn't go too well. Orc Invasion, the star of my team was the Level 11 Bow, level 10 Bow, and Level 9 Crossbows. Rest were 5-8s. Goblin Wolfrider ambush and all my ranged people just died at the start of the Orc Invasion. They're so much more terrifying than the Noble House War.
