Occam’s Razor makes me think it’s Guy Gilchrist being a lovely artist who doesn’t give a poo poo and him pandering to an audience that is incredibly close to death and is also southern and religious

Yeah, it's mostly insane pandering. Like, if you think Nancy is a pandering poo poo show don't look at his social media because it is all inspiring quote fairies and angels that your stereotypical aunt has little statues of on a glass shelf that she's given individual names to. He is soon to be releasing a DVD ebook with all of them, too. Actually that's a lie. It's about 50% inspiring fairangles - the rest is him shilling for donations as if he's running some kind of charity to achieve world peace by perpetually leeching off other's intellectual properties.

Highlights from the Peanuts archives for September 1951 in which we finally see Schroeder start playing the piano: (There's an online theory that Schroeder is actually really famous behind the scenes. Thanks to strips like this I totally believe it.) I really love that last one. That is some next-level bullying by Patty right there. Also, I love the idea that Charlie Brown quietly has just one genius-level talent in the form of his singing voice that no one knows or cares about. Now is also probably a good time to point out that Schroeder is a great addition to the strip. His passion for music is endearing and gives him some nice synergy with Charlie Brown, who is also a huge classical music nerd. He's also a huge loving goon about it, which is just . It basically takes him from being a person that could be really annoying to a character that's incredibly relatable even now, 50+ years later. Hell, he probably works even better these days since the internet has made people with his kind of personality more visible than ever (See: these forums).

Buni Rhymes with Orange Pros and Cons Edge of Reset Button Nope, that really is Sam, he really is driving an unavailable-in-1940 Jeep, and Allen/Vorderbrug really got so tired of faffing around trying to get Sam to Chad that they forcibly skipped the story ahead three years. Yesterday I found this via Matt Fraction's tumbrl: How to Read Nancy. It's a surprisingly good analysis of how Bushmiller-era Nancy "worked" and how he assembled his jokes. Not just in terms of the joke itself but how he used the art to support the flow of a strip. There's also a 275-page version but I didn't pick it up (yet).
