Wow I had like zero expectations for this episode after seeing the preview but this was actually really good. You folks are right, they loving nailed the casting for the young Danvers.

That was a complete waste of time. I can't believe they thought it was a good idea to disrupt the flow of the series by essentially inserting an episode of what might as well have been a different show.

This was REALLY good, and served as a nice breather between big dramatic episodes. Martian Manhunter showing up was my favorite bit, just because he plays the father figure role so well.

As someone who defends Smallville and watched every drat episode live, I really loved this episode. The only thing that slightly bothers me is that it's a weird lead in to the pilot. I get that Martian Manhunter's little speech helped her feel she needed to abandon her powers, but it's odd to go from the sisters bonding like that over being detectives, solving a few cases, and using powers to save lives - to Alex joining the DEO in secret and never telling her sister at all. Some absurdly good casting. I hope they keep those two on retainer for a few other flashback stories.

I think it's pretty obvious that they needed to create time in the shooting schedule for the cast to basically film three additional episodes. It was a side track from the season's arc, but the two kids were flipping great so I didn't mind.

I don't know what to make of a Smallville homage episode of Supergirl. But I think I'm just trying to process in my mind if they just revealed that Supergirl's Earth is the Smallville one*. *Kidding. Mostly. My mind is totally trying to figure out if there's any deal breaking consistencies besides Smallville being something I want to forget.
