Had to leave the Niva at the shops and walk home. Tried to start it. Thought it did but it didn't. The sound of a nearby B-double rattling past masked it. Tried again. Nothing. Not this poo poo again. It left me stranded at the tip (dump) in the next town recently. Had to get a pull start. I'm heading back over to it a bit later to start it. It'll start first try. It does every goddamn time when it pulls this bullshit. Weird thing is when I changed the steering box a while back I had to take the starter out so I took the opportunity to check it over and test it. It spun every single time. Never with the brief pause it sometimes does. I don't know if it's a screwed battery or the starter solenoid. None of the batteries here are exactly healthy. I have to drive the drat thing a couple of hundred km with some family tomorrow. Ughghhhhhh.

Just walked back to my car. Started first go, as predicted. Took a multimeter with me. Battery is about 12.3v so kind of meh. Interesting thing is when it's running the voltage at the regulator is 13.8v and elsewhere it's 14.8v. wtf?

It's not been a good month. You guys heard me whine enough about the job poo poo. Friend B got his positive HIV diagnosis the other day, after developing symptoms recently (also we've slept together, once, but it's been a couple of years.. protection was used, but still makes one go about their own health) Friend C got a positive Hep C diagnosis. I'm getting tested again tomorrow (last test was a few months ago), but I'm pretty sure friend B and I had our fun before he was infected. I got tested this summer and was negative, but after finding out someone you've been with has HIV, step 1 is go get tested again. Step 2 is start trying to find out what resources there are for said friend, since he's working a minimum wage job with no health insurance. C is an IV drug user that shares needles, so that's.... not a massive surprise, but still sad. Unfortunately, he still uses IV drugs, so there's a decent chance the next funeral I go to will be his. I don't mean to sound totally stone hearted, but I've pretty much accepted that this will be happening. A good friend lost her mother to hep C this year (she acquired it from a blood transfusion back before blood donations were tested for C), another friend got a liver transplant due to Hep C and is doing well (... probably the same liver friend's mother was going to get if she'd lived it a bit longer, they were both at the same hospital, on the same list). Hopefully December is a better month. Hopefully 2018 is a better year. I lost a good friend to a heroin OD this spring, and I had no clue he was even doing any drugs beyond drinking and these days. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 10:55 on Nov 14, 2017 |

I don't recall any 300Cs, but I did forget to mention the handful of Chargers and Challengers. I saw at least one that was a Hellcat. Basic stereos: maybe look at an import site like Banggood? Thy have some basic stereos, but of course the quality is going to vary widely. Something like this: https://www.banggood.com/Auto-Car-Audio-Stereo-In-Dash-MP3-Player-USB-SD-FM-AUX-Input-Receiver-p-915186.html?rmmds=category&cur_warehouse=CN or this: https://www.banggood.com/Car-Stereo-In-Dash-MP3-Player-FM-USB-SD-AUX-Input-Receiver-p-916248.html?rmmds=category&cur_warehouse=CN Though that second one I would avoid since it appears to be common-ground given the look of the wiring, which is bad.

The instant clarity of reading album and track titles by a decent pixel display is great. The continental can be bought via ebay international. Basically a Pebisicte may not be a compulsory referendum but there will be utterly hell to pay in such a way that it may as well be a compulsory direction to politicans to "gently caress you, you have no excuse get it passed now DO IT" There's pretty much nothing the no camp can hang their hat on with this - massive resposnse (79%), Yes in all states, Yes in 135 out of 150 seats, only inner west Sydney the ONLY area that voted no. Which suprised me, I thought it would be the rural areas but nope, that carried yes. My seat was 63% So yeah, it will be VERY politically dangerous to go against this survey and not act fast, when the results are this clear. SSM bill will be introduced to parliament this afternoon (the Smith bill that is being put forward is sponsored by all sides of parliament) and it will be forced through before Christmas.

Was in a 3 car accident on the way home from work tonight, ugh. I got rear ended by a car that was rear ended by another car. Luckily I didn't have anyone in front of me so I didn't hit anybody. My car is okay, the rear bumper is damaged but my trunk wasn't hurt. Both drivers had USAA, hopefully they're not a pain to deal with. Could have been much worse!

Interesting. Only mine has a single 35A alternator, and bugger all that needs to run off it. Had to take it for a 200-ish km drive today with the family. Hottish day. Made a few stops. Started first time every time. I keep an eye on the voltmeter which IIRC I wired to the gauge power feed. Sitting at about 15 for maybe half of the first half of the trip. Ie half an hour or so. Then ??? and it went to about 14v. Don't remember what it was about town. On the way back it was around 15v again. On the trip back I was a little concerned because the whole way I could smell what kind of smelled like freshly laid bitumen. Got under it after we got home. It was just splattered grease from all the U joints. Some had hit the exhaust. Oil pressure was just about non existent when I got home too. I really want to understand how sandwich adapters work so I can fit an external oil cooler. Oh yeah... got to the parts place. No record and no sign of the motherfucking Jeep balljoint. They had the one which they already had in stock. It's interesting within seconds they worked out that there's a courier that does a run through my town and set it up so it'd be delivered tomorrow. Not sure if it had something to do with the look on my face. While I was in town, I did ...something. The drivetrain seems louder and more vibey. When I was under looking at the grease platter modern art I looked at the donut and U joint. That U joint had way more grease splatter than the rest. It must have been an illusion but I swear it looked like one of the bolts through the donut was bent. Did I mention I can't turn the heater off completely in my car? I'm going to shove a sprinkler system poly ballvalve in. gently caress it. Let me turn it off completely from the engine bay. So yeah hot, tired and cranky. Everyone the worse for wear. Still, looking on the bright side. it didn't leave us stranded. It's my poo poo hauler / errand runner / offroad explorer. Not a long distance car.

Wife's grandmother isn't doing great, got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this last go around (she's 90) - We all love her, and flights from Houston were very cheap for this time of year, $120 round trip on United. Good news is they want to treat it, so either they are dragging out insurance or medicaid (booo) or she has a shot. I'm 50/50. I didn't want to take all of the kids up there. It's just a huge poo poo show with car seats, airport security and renting a car and everything. Planning on going up there in three weeks. But, s/o doesn't like flying and would be by herself and with a 3 month old so I gotta just bite that bullet. Her brother has his head in the sand and her sister can't go at all. My grandmother was similar and made it to the hospital and never left. Let her lean on me and she lets me lean on her. Bleh. I have about 3 good family friends that I don't expect to make 2019. They don't tell you when you get older and have kids that you end up having to deal with that kind of stuff.
