There were rumors of a 3rd predator movie where The Rock was Arnold's son and Arnold disappears. So The Rock would go to Danny Glover to learn about the predators. And the rumor ended with The Rock getting sent to a predator arena planet to fight. Instead were gonna get some kid that wears the predator mask.

What a trip it would be to be designing a big alien with a huge vaj on the front. Do you question your life choices or double down? I'd probably double down myself.

I said earlier in the thread: I think the Newborn design is a very successful one. It's a loathsome abomination and that's exactly what the Newborn is supposed to be. I think people's (me included) actual issue with the Newborn is that it's just not a concept they were interested in for an Alien movie.

theres nothin super wrong with the design of alien ressurection: goopy wet steamed out alien hams work well and the whole newborn birthing scene has some rococo nightmare energy, mainly thanks to brad dourif. generally its just a bad script, really all over the place, and the whackiness of it undermines the spooks

happy 20th anniversary, weird movie

Dourif really makes the Newborn birth scene with all of his yelling and wide-eyed growly words.

The Newborn crushing his skull like a kinder egg is not something easily forgotten.

Chris Cunningham did some neat designs for the newborn.

Can't remember if he had anything to do with the final one or not, he worked on the Alien in Cubed as well.

Also legit upset because I just found him and Grant Morrison worked on an Alien comic that never came out.

He got them where they wanted to go at least. His designs reflect closer to the final one.

It could be fan art of his design. But he definitely did that one. I remember it clearly from looking at the concept art and realizing it was the same guy who did Rubber Johnny.

:psyduck: This is a weird assumption, because Disney presumably remembers AvP and presumably doesn't actively hate money.

e: and yes, the first AvP nearly tripled its budget, on paper, but... look at its second weekend drop and look at how badly Requiem tanked. There's a pretty solid argument to be made that AvP nearly killed both loving franchises and we only still have new poo poo in either because people with a good amount of pull (Robert Rodriguez, Ridley Scott, Shane Black) love Aliens and Predators.

NECA's Alien/Predator line might help too because every toy store, or collectible store is FILLED with Alien/Predator merch. It's actually super insane how much they've made. Not to mention other companies joining in.

People want more. They don't fully want what Ridley is throwing down, but they don't denounce it either.

I don't want Blomkamp's fan film, but I wouldn't be opposed to a more action, filled Alien film that relies more on being fun and thrilling than just outright horror.

This is exactly what Disney would do, because they prioritize profits over quality; that is simply their business model—there is no risk taking with them. Explosions, guns, the military, and action is what siphons the most amount of money from the mindless masses out there; just look at superhero films and the Fast & Furious franchise. They would just make a lovely version of Cameron's film every few years.

There hasn't been a fun Alien film since...Aliens. I mean I guess AvP sorta counts, but that was more "Adventure" than what Aliens was doing. No one has tried to match Cameron's film except for lovely video games. We're due for an action Aliens romp.

I think if they got the keys to the Aliens franchise tomorrow what Disney would do is A) let Ridley Scott finish his trilogy since Prometheus made huge bank and Covenant was cheaper and still profitable even it made less; then B) give it to a talented director to take a soft reboot in whatever direction he wanted. They probably wouldn't make Alien Rebirth: The Hive Awakens directed by JJ Abrams w/cameos by Sigorney Weaver and Lance Henrikson although that would be funny as hell

WeedlordGoku69

I think chances are pretty good they'd let Scott finish his trilogy, and then hand the reins to Blomkamp since he's been stumping for the chance to make an Alien movie for so long.

At that point, however, he'd probably have to either ditch or rework most of what he's already planned, because Sigourney Weaver is nearly loving 70 and not getting younger (though to be fair she looks like she's barely aged), and while Michael Biehn is a good bit more spry at 61, I don't think any studio would greenlight a major blockbuster headlined by Michael loving Biehn.

This would probably be the best of both worlds; I was okay with his original idea just because, while the premise is cliched, the direction he seemed to be taking it in was bonkers, but there's no reason he can't do the same bonkers poo poo without dredging up the ~HICKS AND NEWT~ argument. Prometheus and Covenant aren't overwriting anything that actually matters to the first four movies, either, so the door's still totally open for something set in that chunk of the timeline (maybe not post-Resurrection, but maybe something between 3 and Resurrection with new characters).

If by "bank" you mean "considerably less money than Ant-Man", then yes! It made bank.

If you mean "had a large enough take domestic to cover costs", then no. It did not make bank. And Alien Covenant did considerably worse.

They didn't make the kind of money that Disney adjusts policy for. Honestly, with Covenant's box office trajectory, my gut assumption is that Disney wouldn't make Aliens films at all, at least not for a while.

Aliens and Terminator 2 were as intense as Ebert said on their release, No movies really were mixing that much sound and visual and constant danger and horror and then making you laugh, then jumping back at the time. It's a really good review for the time.

Honestly I don't think we need more Alien movies. Everything has been done already and there isn't really a story to tell that cant be done as its own thing. That's why Resurrection was so goddamn bad. It was empty. No substance.
