there is no reason, its not really any different then the various conspiracy choice cards, its just a bit more jokey flavored

Having three potential outcomes instead of just one (which is how "will of the council" effects work in one-on-one games) makes this one quite a bit more complex.

Yeah with the conspiracy cards there's effectively no choice in a 2 player game because if you choose the non-tie option you're just making it a punisher card for no benefit. This mechanic has a second-guess element.

LOL that they specified silver-bordered to forestall tossing a creature into an draft/standard game into a "serious" event running concurrently.

Lots of timing problems with this one where you could potentially pluck it back from the borrower in the middle of an attack phase...

There's some rules issue with trample spells(although I don't remember what it is), you'll have to stick with this attempt from 2002 or whenever it was Ody came out

More like can I inspect the hands of the players in the games I can see from my seat in order to choose who is best suited to have the creature for a bit? If so, does this reveal information to the opponent of the player I give it to in some fashion?

Ok, so no question I can give this to my opponent or my 2hg partner. Can I give it to myself if there is a mirror where i'm playing?

So what do you guys think Unstable singles will shake out to be? I guess it somewhat depends on the print run. I really want to buy a box but I’m a tad cash right right now, but I’m nervous the price will jump post release.

Its oracle text:

quote:

As an additional cost to cast Liquid Fire, choose a number between 0 and 5.
Liquid Fire deals X damage to target creature and 5 minus X damage to that creature’s controller, where X is the chosen number.

It's a mess.

Maro's talked about Trample on burn spells a lot in the past, and apparently it's not been as simple as death ray, just slapping it on there and going to town. Trample refers to an attacking creature assigning lethal damage to blockers, things that burn spells kinda don't do. I forget what exactly, he clammed up about it around the time that Unstable got the green light. Hmm, :thunk: Death Ray might be the proof-of-concept for just doing that, slapping it on there and going to town, and letting the fact that the keyword is working an entirely different way be brushed aside because using the keyword makes it far easier to understand how it plays.

A lot of Unstable is proof-of-concepts for things Maro's been wanting to do in black border for a while. There's also a lot of things that just don't work in black-border that work just fine with the looser framework and emphasis on how it's supposed to go. Mary O'Kill would be a loving nightmare for the comprehensive rules but we "get" what the idea is supposed to be and play it like that.

So we have a creature burn spell with Trample and we play it how it reads - if the creature has less than four toughness, it deals the extra damage to the player. The technicalities of Trample as a creature keyword that's based on assigned combat damage is forgotten because we know exactly what it's supposed to do and don't need no 702.19 to tell us.

I don't think singles will be that costly in the medium or long term. I think you should follow FreelanceSocialist's advice.

If you feel like a splurge, you'd probably have more fun and it would be more responsible budget wise to hit up a release weekend event and do a draft or sealed event.

Dirt cheap unless you want the basics probably. It's mostly tournament and EDH players who drive prices, I think, and these cards obviously aren't tournament legal and a lot of EDH players won't be interested in these. Some might make their way into cubes, but even Blast from the Past and Booster Tutor are under $2.

Augment rules, and TBH looks cleaner and from both an aesthetic and design perspective as a way of doing what Meld was trying to do. I could see it smoothed out more and made into a black border thing.

Sweet, probably means boxes will hold their price as well

I might even not buy one cause it’d be the most wasteful use of money possible considering I’d just be ripping the packs open and then maybe trying to make a cube or something with the cards

We’ll see
