Dark_Swordmaster posted:Go to any game with those and you'll see that something like 10-20% of players don't have the "complete tutorial/press start" achievements. There may be glitches keeping it from popping, but more often than not you'll find players start the game up and never even play it. I'll always like it when games show the gap between people who beat the tutorial and people who beat level one or any similar achievement earned shortly after finishing the tutorial.

the guy delayed the game for 2 days right as it was about to unlock. this puzzles me on a bunch of levels. what reason could there be to delay something for just 2 days? what could have been wrong that can be fixed in 2 days? it's probably never actually releasing or something. probably some of that "meta" "humor" i hear so much about

Nipponophile posted:"If it's on the Internet, it must be free to use." I used to work in the website design department of a rightfully low-rated hosting provider. The amount of times I heard this from customers insisting to just take pictures off of Disney's site for their own site was staggering. The best was the London male escort who wanted me to take pictures from a rival male escort's site and photoshop his head onto his rival's (admittedly jacked) body. "That's copyright infringement, and we don't engage in copyright infringement," was no excuse to this guy. So tl;dr people really don't understand copyright. At all. Not even in the loosest possible sense.

When I was 6, I really wanted a playstation just to play any of the Crash Bandicoot games. I thought it was the coolest game ever made and the playstation was the coolest system ever, it played CDs! So what if it was a few years old and the N64 had just come out, mario wasnt as cool as crash. My dad got me a playstation that year as a combined christmas/birthday present but with Bubsy 3D instead and to this day I am convinced he did it on purpose. Thats my story and I assume that it is the most positive experience anyone ever had with bubsy.

Improbable Lobster posted:Waiting for a lawsuit to take a game with stolen assets of their market would be significantly worse for Valve than taking it off beforehand. On what grounds could they win a lawsuit against Valve? They’ll get a DMCA claim at worst. They’re not responsible for adjudicating copyright claims, and they don’t have the expertise.
|

The way DMCA works is the rights-holder has to tell the host there is infringing content. The host then has to remove the content. After that, the person who submitted the content can tell the host it’s not actually infringing; then, the host will put it back up. Then, the host is out of the picture and safe from any infringement claims, and the two parties would have to sue each other before the host would need to take action. Since copyright can be selectively enforced, it’s often not worth it to sue over minor things, so if the DMCA request gets counter-claimed, there might be nothing the rights-holder can do.

So, ok, there's about 1,000 anime visual novel games on Steam. But that's because they're super cheap and easy to make, right? There aren't any actual Positive Experiences I'm missing out on, right? Like, is there a GOOD anime visual novel? One that Those People go "aww yeah, you GOTTA play Nekochan Love Missile XXY, it's the Chrono Trigger of dumb porno games" or whatever?

honestly Nekochan Love Missile jumped the shark when they killed off Amana Top Load Dual-Action and Magnum Extra Ribbed in XXIV There are good ones out there, but almost all of them are going to have animes doin' the do so it's slim pickings if that's a deal-breaker. DDLC is a good start, especially since it's free, and there's also Zero Escape: The Nonary Games, which is about a bunch of strangers getting trapped in a SAW-style horror dungeon with room escape puzzles and lots of weird science myth tangents.
