Living. Breathing. EA NASCAR Career Mode character. Come to life. Also, what did Sadler do? I rage-deleted the recording once the checkers flew. And Rick Allen: "And right behind Custer!...(pans to Byron 3/4ths of a lap down)".

What happened?

Sadler failed passing Preece once and it led to Byron passing him then he failed passing him again so he tried to wreck him and failed at that. After that he got real mad that a guy in a race was racing him.

It wasn't even like Preece blocked him. He just kept running the line he was running and wouldn't lay down and let Sadler by.

I don't know if Elliot noticed but Byron had no issue passing Preece clean.

NBC continues their tradition of sweet release from Rick Allen for the NASCAR Bowl by having the HotPass companion simulcast. Praise be to the Leigh Diffey, for he will have the call, joined by Dale Jarrett. https://twitter.com/NASCARonNBC/status/932008146930892801 E- We were 6 laps from a winless champion in Xfinity. He's not wrong here on any of the points. They've had the 90s transition in terms of stars and now it's another transition, the nuance relies in transitioning properly. They did it back then, but I'm a tad bearish that they can do it again partially because of how it's concentrated. Case in point, they decided to make Chase a star. I'm going to be generous here. He's not entirely wrong because streaming is very much a thing these days, and it does impact ratings for better or for worse. Secondly, I think he might be realizing that getting butts in the seats instead of on the couch may be a better goal from here on out. Then again, Brian France. Right on Danica, half-right on Kenseth. Matt is the epitome of "driver who is consistently in the hunt by placing in the top 10, but doesn't win races". Since the emphasis on winning races came into play, I understand why he's bearish on Matt, but it's largely undeserved in my opinion. quote:https://twitter.com/MattWeaverAW/status/932281942447357952 Also, Miami is the only 1.5 mile track that's a traditional oval, not a tri/quad-oval. Take that as you will.

And most of that perception of Kenseth comes from the 2003 season. He's 20th on all-time wins and 3rd on active wins.

Wins are an interesting measurement to a driver's career and standing in the sport. The drop from #8 Earnhardt to #9 Wallace is 21 wins, that's huge. After that you can pretty much throw a blanket over the top 20. As such, i"m not sure it's all that meaningful to rank a driver by wins when one or two wins in either direction by him or anyone around him will drastically change the rankings. I think it's fair to say that Matt Kenseth has had a successful career based on his championship and wins, but probably best to avoid ranks until you make it into the top 10. Looking at the list, I'm very surprised that Stewart "only" has 49 wins.

Friendly reminder Kulwicki and Kenseth won the cup with 2 and 1 wins respectively.

It just dawned on me that each of the four years of this format has resulted in a subplot of someone or something which will not be in the sport following the end of the race. The end of ESPN's coverage, Jeff Gordon, Smoke, and now Dale, Danica, and Kenseth. SpitztheGreat posted:Wins are an interesting measurement to a driver's career and standing in the sport. If you're measuring based off wins, you can make the argument that the drivers who picked up the majority of their wins in the modern era are more impressive because of the consolidation of the sport and how much tougher it got. Think Waltrip, Gordon, Johnson, Earnhardt, Wallace, Elliott, Stewart...Kenseth... CBJSprague24 fucked around with this message at 20:40 on Nov 19, 2017 |

Funny you mention the modern era, I had a much longer post written up where I questioned how NASCAR records and talks about its stats. To some extent all sports have an issue with stats after decades/ a century of rule changes, but I feel like NASCAR doesn't know how to be consistent (shocker) when talking about its stats more than the other leagues. On one hand, you don't want to erase a career's worth of stats just because they fall in two different generations, but on the other hand NASCAR doesn't do enough to promote its "modern era" stats as a thing. Gordon's 93 wins are not appreciated enough because they're always compared to Petty and Pearson, but that's only half the story because Gordon got all of his wins in an era of much stiffer competition while both Petty and Pearson got most of theirs before. There should be a differentiation made that establishes two 7 time Cup champions in Earnhardt and Johnson, and three 7 time career champs with Petty, Earndhardt, and Johnson. It would be similar to how we recognize the Browns as NFL champions, but never a Super Bowl Champ.
