Anyone know of a tech tree map for WOTC? Everything I'm finding is out of date.

I'm too emotionally attached to my soldier mans :(

Legend seems like the true XCOM experience: even if you do everything right you'll still lose people you're attached to and you're going to have to scramble to pull yourself out of a death spiral. But I eventually rage quit after one too many backsies because if you're not going to sack up and deal with the adverse consequences of a critically important shot missing then what's even the point.

I've found it easier to do Ironman type runs if you avoid customizing your soldiers.

She told me that there would be absolutely no party on my birthday. And there wasn't. The "surprise" part was that the party took place 2 days later.

A lot of people will argue in favor of cutting the cake with a knife, but I say any situation where you'd ever need to use a knife you could just use a shotgun instead and spec for crits anyway for better overall damage.

Hey, how's the expansion? I liked the base game for a bit, but I got kinda frustrated how rocket-taggy the endgame got and how basically all strategy was action denial

It adds a lot but it doesn't change the importance of action denial

I mean, it comes with the "beta strike" option that doubles almost all HP while keeping damage the same. Arguably that's closer to what he's looking for

In my LW2 I'm at power armor/lasers, and have researched everything. I guess I need corpses to continue in the tree, but it's weird to already have everything excavated and have like 6 empty plots, nothing to put in there, and just doing basic research because nothing new has popped up.

I saw a few Archons and Chryssalids, too. Way more already than non LW2 games, so that's fun. Speaking of action denial, though, I'm alpha striking pods not unlike vanilla. There will be maybe 1 or 2 guys left to take turns that are all wounded by red fog. So much for the real protracted fire fights...

Assault is pretty drat good after Close Encounters. Same with Ranger and Implacable. Around that rank, your ability to kill and flank just goes waaaay up. Also, OW spec Specialist (and Ranger) are cool as hell. I got Ever Vigilant as an AWC ability on my Specialist, and so she... gets two free overwatch shots when she moves than can crit, confer an aim malus, and have an aim bonus - and that triggers on any enemy action, not just movement. It's pretty loving baller.

Found a weird item in Grimy's Loot that reduces your mobility by 6, but gives you an extra action. I put it on my 16 movement Technical so if I was just moving, technically his movement is 30? I feel like this is what Skirmishers should've had at the end. Their extra action turn that triggers when being shot at is kind of lame.

E: One more thing, go see Phoenix Point. It's a new game with a geoscape and tactical combat by one of the guys who did the original XCOM (Julian Gollop), and it looks pretty good. He has some real nice things to say about the series relaunch and says he wouldn't have even attempted it if not for the game.

It's post apocalyptic versus deep sea aliens. He also says we almost had a Lovecraftian XCOMwhere we chase down and close eldritch gates with an occult investigation bureau using guns and magic. Microprose told him "horror games don't sell". Oh well! Microprose told him that they needed a sequel to X-Com in 6 months, so he put some of that stuff into TFTD

I know why you don't get loot from missions you have to evac but it really sucks getting all the way to plasma weapons and still not having battlefield medicine because I don't have enough viper corpses.

My latest attempt at a campaign failed spectacularly. The first 4 missions were flawless and I was feeling real good about myself. Then it was all downhill, and nothing but failure and two turn squad wipes.

I did have the amusement of a retaliation mission where a muton popped 3 of my soldiers in one grenade, leaving only a rookie, who survived because the resistance fighters killed everything else.

Iv been usually running 2 specs. 2 rangers, a grenidiere and a templar/reaper, and this is the first time ive gotten this far into and iron man game, but i think its time for a change.

Why would you run 2 specialists? They're usually first to be cut for me.

Also SPARKs all the time.

At first its was so i had one for hacking and one medic, which is pointless now since they can do both with the training center so yeah, why am i running two specialists?

I always feel like i should have at least one person around to shut down a robit if i need, but that was when mecs where a big deal and i havent seen one in like 4 missions. Should i be cutting my specs? They loose a lot of purpose late game?

hell no, hack and combat protocol specialists are why I never bother with bluescreen rounds.

The trick is to know which missions to not bring them on. Leave them behind for Lost-heavy missions, alien facility assaults and absolutely bring them for council/target/rescue missions.

Having a pair of them lets you make use of +hack covert-op missions which is a very good way to build up a strong hacker.

Aw cool. Ive got about 4 good specs. All with haywire and half of them can heal as well. Gonna start swaping in pairs of sharpshooters whenever im not doing a timed mission till i get them up to speed maybe!

I dont have sparks yet, been short on supplies and i screwed up and didnt turn on shens last gift. Sounds like they can be fun, just not sure what priority i should make them.
