Ngamahu has a lot more mobility so will probably be easier to play. It should also be easier to gear up.

An enemy of your design got put in the game and you got a pet version of it (plummeting ursa for Charan, the only other one I know of is the sparkle dog that was never actually put in the game as an enemy)

Can you support the meatballs with similar supports to molten strike? Can CoMK work with them? Would be funny to use with some of the new corpse eating spells since it's pretty much just scaling fire damage.

iirc you use pretty much identical supports and even take point blank in the tree

there's also a video that i'm pretty sure shows off a ngamahu cyclone dude using one of the new fire spells (volatile dead? idk) with CoMK

The orbs are not melee attacks so CoMK doesn't work. But you could just use CoMK on Cyclone and that would work fine. Cyclone does most of your killing on normal packs, the orbs kill rares/bosses.

Mechanics question:
I have Elemental Equilibrium, Ancestral Bond and a weapon that adds lightning to spells. If I use Scorching Ray totems they do put "vulnerable to fire" effect on mobs despite SR not qualifying as a hit (so the added lightning to spells works). Righteous Fire totems don't work that way though. Both skills are fire spells that don't hit. What's going on there?

E: Searing Bond doesn't work as well (behaving like RF).

Good as dead

Scorching Ray innately gives fire penetration, you do need actual hits to proc EE on top of that.

Ultima66
Sep 2, 2008

"Added lightning damage to spells" doesn't work on SR. All things that add X damage to spells/attacks should say "adds X damage to hits with attacks/spells." Things that do not hit do not get a bonus.

E: To clarify further the reason enemies say "vulnerable to fire" when you SR them is because SR itself reduced their fire resist from 0 to -10% or whatever. If Ele Equilibrium was applied you'd see a bright swirling red/blue/green graphic under the enemy's feet.

SR lowers fire res per stack, thats why it gets vulnerable. Elemental Equilibrium requires a damaging hit. This means that damage over time (rf, sr, searing bond) will not work, but it also means that you cant selfcast to trigger EE while you have ancestral bond.

What happens in the course of duty is up to you...
https://twitter.com/pathofexile/status/933140424696373248

quote:

Detonate Dead was the original corpse-destroying spell, available from a very low level. It had its time in the sun during the height of the ignite proliferation and double dipping metagames, but has seen a major decline in use since those mechanics were changed. This is because its corpse requirement makes it less practical to activate than a regular fire spell and its secondary damage harder to specialise in and support.

To let it have more of the benefits of a damaging spell, we've split the explosion into two parts, a corpse-based explosion that deals un-reflectable secondary damage like all other corpse explosions and a powerful spell explosion that has base fire damage that grows as the gem levels. This makes it something you can fully invest in, with a large base area that grows as the gem levels and destructive new visuals to match. Alongside the new Unearth or the improved Desecrate, it's now much easier to rely on this skill while leveling towards any of the new corpse-based skills or as a reliable area of effect skill that can carry you through the game.

Scorching ray (or RF) totems won't proc EE*, but you could use something like a lightning trap (or shock/ice nova trap) to do it. Most selfcast SR builds use orb of storms.

*If you're a chieftain, one of your passives can trigger aoe fire damage when totems are hit, and this counts as a fire damage hit for the purposes of EE. It's bad to spec into if you plan on using EE.

Right, I forgot that SR's penetration effect displays the same as EE. Thanks!

E: It's annoying that Orb of Storms doesn't proc EE with Ancestral Bond. The skill does hit, it just doesn't do damage

Is it even possible to inflict EE with ancestral bond? Elements have to inflict damage to count, and AB shuts down all ability to inflict damage.

Oh poo poo, wait - That ring that gives the socketed gem EE at a reduced effect, could you socket a minion in it to give that minion the ability to inflict EE?

Yes, no. EE has to proc'd by your skills specifically. So traps and mines work, but minions definitely don't.

DD was good because ignite prolif used to be completely nutso.

The only downside was that it was only particularly good pre-lockstep, and against bosses, it was common to detonate corpses that weren't underneath the boss itself.

DD was probably the best clear skill in the game in 1.0. Flameblast got buffed to useful damage values in 1.1 and from there DD was never really able to compete. Flameblast did the same (or more) ignite damage and had a much smoother setup. (Flameblast vs Desecrate -> Curse -> DD) Having said that, I really loved pre 1.1 DD+Cloak of Defiance+Arctic Armour FeelsBadMan

I decided to use a bunch of skills that I never use to hit 35, so I leveled a witch with ice spear and cold snap. Once you get a pierce gem and herald of ice, ice spear is actually pretty sweet, and prolif cold snap locks poo poo down pretty hard. Was a fun way to play in HCSSF
