New wheels and tires assemble! 2011 WRX wheels and 235/45/17 Dunlop Sport Maxx Tires. Trying to do it on a budget, I only have $375 into them including mounting and balancing.   And a quick placement next to the car just out of curiosity since they won’t be on until spring.

I emptied a half-quart worth of ATF into my hair while changing the lines to the radiator. My mane has never been as soft or silky, shame about the smell though.

I'm even more convinced that the previous owner of the Rugger never washed it. I started to claybar it today and just one swipe ground up all this red-ish residue, more swipes and kneading and the white paint started to shine again. Only the left side though, I'm starting to think that it was parked next to a sprinkler.

Today I drove my truck for the last time for a while. The Ontario insurance expires tomorrow and I haven't been able to fix / get fixed all the things needed for it to pass inspection here in Quebec and get registered. Local mechanics are busy right now so I *might* get it sorted out by the end of the first week of December.

Yesterday I was finally able to put the GTO up to get the hood open. After about an hour or so of fussing and cussing, I finally managed to find a way to manipulate the hood release from underneath the bumper cover on the underside of the core support. After routing a new cable and confirming proper operation. I celebrated with a much needed oil change and fluid check. Side by side: The new cable and the corroded and frayed remnants of the old one, I never found the broken end. Rust belt strikes again.

My new high-performance mirror delete. Black caulk on the filler plates for added stealth. I love this car more than I should. It's a pleasure to drive. I barely fit, but it's actually comfortably snug although I'll probably lose my legs in the event of a crash. Just needs a paint touch-up here and there. And new wheels. And tires. And a fix for the EGR system. And a clutch that doesn't slip like Astro-Glide. Whatever. What V8 will fit in my engine bay? 1UZ-FE? Should that happen? Yes, that should happen...

Had a JDM 88 Corolla for a few months. No idea why but it was a lot of fun. 3 speed auto with the CLEANACE smoke filtration system upgrade. I dropped my truck off at an exhaust place that actually has a waiting list today. I can't weld for poo poo and I need everything fixed, now that I can't keep the windows rolled down I've pretty much got a rolling gas chamber.

I dicked around with the throttle cable and linkages. Maybe that fixes it.  I'm gonna try to start it again when I get home today. I'm hoping the gremlins are away on vacation and that it just magically runs fine this time.

It's really common for them to shear if it floods/backfires/etc. All you have to do is pull the flywheel bolt off (not the whole flywheel yet) and just visually inspect it. If/when you pull the flywheel off, my go-to method is to use a prybar to take up the thrust in the crank, you don't have to pry hard, just enough to pull it up. Then I thread the bolt almost all the way back in and smack it with a BFH. It's a taper seat so once it's loose you're good. Be careful where you put the prybar on the underside of the flywheel, the alternator magnets are under there.

Pretty good for a tired old diesel though. Thought I might have to pull the hood to make it over the divide but I never saw water temps above 95 celsius even inching past unloaded semis on long climbs.

It was the same A131L they used as early as 1984, except they added electric shift solenoids at some point (probably the late 80s if I had to guess). Let that sink in a bit. A 3 speed from 1984 was still being produced and sold in 2002....

Welp there go my hopes of an easy fix on the tractor. That key is perfectly in place. I tried to start it after loving with the throttle linkages and poo poo and it runs exactly the same. It sounds like it's misfiring at full to half throttle. If I drop the throttle all the way down the engine recovers and runs much more smoothly but still doesn't sound quite right. Also it runs way faster than it should at low throttle.

Got my truck back from the shop. It's amazing how much difference it makes having an exhaust that isn't swiss cheese. I can barely hear it run now. The downside to that, though, is that the motor noise has been muffling the awful sounds the transmission and clutch make.

Peeled all masking off. I like it without so much chrome. I think I'll dip it with an accent color when I do it. My smoke fog lights get delivered today. Hoping to install my new black headlights and fog lights after Union business today. I took the bumper off and installed the new lighting on the front.

The jet didn't come out of the carb, it was clean so I just ran a guitar string through there to check it. I'll take a pic of the linkages when I get a chance. Which might not be soon because Turkey Day tomorrow.

Reset the IAC valve, throttle at idle, and tweaked the TPS to read correctly with the new idle setting. Also noticed I had left the timing set connector disconnected... which it likely has been for a month. You disconnect it to set the base timing, connect it to let the computer advance properly. None of this was a magic bullet for my adapted EFI setup. Starts, idles fine with a factory chip but won’t go to closed loop. Starts and idles fine with a chip I’ve tweaked, but will just... die after idling for a minute or two in closed loop. Better than it was doing before I did some setup stuff but not right by far. In contact with a guru on this setup but I need to log some data to send first, if I can’t drive I can’t log... ugh. I could probably drive on the GM chip now but I ran out of daylight and I’m not bold enough to drive old unreliable around to test.

Ordered some custom decals to replace the badging I removed until my cnc is finished so I can make aluminum ones. Put them on. Had a Check Engine light, so I hooked up the OBD scanner, and it showed p0158, which is the O2 sensor behind the catalytic converter being stuck on high voltage. Cleared the fault and monitored the voltage, it never showed above 0.3V. I dunno. I'm going to keep an eye on it. I might just swap it, because as it gets colder, my remote start won't stay running if I have a Check Engine light, and I don't want to get into a cold car when it's freezing.
