I'm in the NWT so I haven't really looked into them. We have Telus/Bell and I can choose Northwest Territories as my location on their website so should work? They say "province wide" for stuff though, so I should probably make sure. edit: Yeah, I mean no technical reason it wouldn't work, just making sure billing/etc would be fine. I've had enough trouble trying to buy poo poo from companies or sign up for something because of where I live, that I figured it wouldn't hurt to check. odiv fucked around with this message at 18:09 on Nov 23, 2017 |

I wouldn't recommend them to grandma but if you are half way technical and either able to sort out minor technical issues yourself or wait 48 hours for a customer service email, they can't be beat.

Seriously I pay half as much for twice as much data as most of my friends on Rogers and have reception where they don't. Only downside is no subsidized phones and no immediate customer service.

Public Mobile is owned by Telus and uses the Telus network, so yeah. Oligarchy! I'm pretty happy with Rogers, I get a nice corporate discount plus their network is blazing fast and I have signal pretty much everywhere I go. Also Roam Like Home loving owns.

So in the US, at the Roger $6/day rate, your max charge is $60 for the month and you get the entire month to use your home plan. Given the hassle and cost of getting a prepaid local SIM that at least for me, does not match how good my home plan is, isn't worth it to me, especially because it's a new number so calls/SMS are different. I've used Roam Like Home in the US and Europe and it was worth it in both cases.

The new koodo roaming plan is absolute poo poo compared to their previous extremely cheap roaming add ons, which I used all the time and will be buying travel sims now to avoid. You could get travel add ons for things like just unlimited texts for $15 for 10 days. That will cost you $70 now, no other option from them. Almost in response to this, T-Mobile now offers a tourist SIM that's full unlimited data/talk/txt for 3 weeks, sold in their stores and in airports.

Wow. It only $30 US too. I have an old T mobile sim I got for $3 and was planning to buy an $8 dead sim reactivation code and limp by on cheap top-ups. Now I get to travel and use my phone like an actual human being, entirely unlike when I used to visit the US and Europe with only an Ipod touch and scuttle around like a wifi parasite.

I'm in the states and almost bought this yesterday but got upselled to the one month 10GB pay as you go because I'm here for 4 weeks and they waived the SIM activation fee. I think it was only 5 or 10 bucks more without the SIM fee. Anyone thinking of doing this should know that it does NOT include international messaging, which I didn't realize when I signed up.

The GTA, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Kingston, Ottawa. More than 3 cities. Hamilton, St Catherines, London. Peterborough and Barrie, if you could believe it. They say they're building it out, and I believe them ... just that the others are way ahead of them.

Careful saying ON/QC. We're not the same. Wind er Freedom Mobile (I'll never get used to this) hasn't built anything out in Quebec. They don't cover Montreal even. If you're in Gatineau you might pick up signal from Ottawa.

With Freedom rolling out LTE in Alberta this month, I am strongly considering switching from PM. Speedtests from customers with phones that support the new bands look promising. My 90 day billing cycle just renewed last week and I'd rather not waste $120 switching now. Does anyone know if the Big Gig plans and the $0 down iPhone 8/X deals are going to last a while?

I spent over an hour on hold thanks to this post, only to find out they couldn't give me the discount because we bought the phones in store (because they hosed up and cancelled our shipment for no reason, as mentioned previously). Apparently we can go get a discount in store tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath on that going correctly either. Could've got $250 off my Note 8 too if I bought it five days later, FML. There's a 15 day limit on price matching apparently. Also I swear Rogers only has two people who answer their phones. I keep getting the same two guys.

Not sure what the pricing is going to be after that though. The 8th is also the date iPhones in general are officially supported by Freedom. Apparently the 8/X will support WiFi Calling and LTE out of the box with the older iPhones getting official LTE support (and maybe WiFi calling?) early next year

I closed my Koodo account and ultimately had a credit of ~$50. Amazingly, you have to actually call in to request that they send you a cheque... at which point its yes sir certainly, thatll be 4-6 weeks and it will arrive via Canada Post. I shouldnt be surprised, but this is hilariously bush league and unprofessional even for Robelus.

If you upgraded in-store to the Pixel 2 XL then some rep probably threw it on your account. It's typically free for the first month otherwise it's like 5 a month or whatever. The shadier reps/stores will do this non-stop cause "lol it's just part of your hardware upgrade" when, in actuality, the customer must consent.

Visual voicemail is the poo poo and I imagine it would be standard by now if the big three hadn't charged like 25 a month for it when they first got it (a loving decade ago). That said, it only took, what, 20 years for caller ID to become mostly standard (halfway there!)?

I love voicemail. I hate taking phone calls from non-contacts, it's usually a business that I have a relationship with but don't care to talk to, or a recruiter, and they call at the worst times. If it's important enough to you, leave a voicemail and I'll call back if it's important enough to me. If they don't leave a message, it wasn't important! The calls screen themselves.
