Felix or Matt also said something about being willing to forgive those people if they were all legally required to wear a sailor suit and lick a lollypop or something. Which ep was that again?

I don't outwardly identify as a gamer, but is someone were to say something derisive toward gamers I would abstract that as anyone who plays games.

It is dumb an weird to identify by your consumer choices an I don't really see people do that very often, 'gamer' is a label people for me is more assigned to people who play games.

Rich Christian guy has a crisis of conscience when he realizes he's living in a huge house with 2 fridges full of food and spending thousands on presents and parties even though basically the only thing Jesus ever preached was "give all your money to the poor." He wants to cancel his huge Christmas party, but then Kirk Cameron convinces him that materialism is the light and the truth.

sexpig by night posted:

Like, it's such an odd duck that there's a literal scene where a guy rants about 'the war on christmas' and our cool guy protagonist just goes 'uh huh, right buddy' before telling people that buying a very large tree is what Jesus would do because...the cross...was made from...wood.
That's one of the weirdest things. There's a token black guy who does two things: he's the DJ for the hip-hop dance at the end (of course) and he delivers crazy rambling monologues as a transition between vignettes. One of these is like "CIA COINTELPRO flouride War on Christmas chemtrails..." and it doesn't mean anything and goes nowhere. That's the only mention of the whole War On Christmas thing.

PostNouveau posted:

Oh, also it's SAINT Nick, so Santa's really a Christian symbol.
So in that scene, Cameron talks about how Saint Nick was based on Nikolaos of Myros, who was a staunch anti-Arian...and then there's a fight scene set to dubstep where a big burly Saint Nick beats up a cringing shrimpy Arius, and this is portrayed as heroic.

"Naive" I think isn't a great way to characterize it when you have 12 an 20 year olds coasting through youtube an are forming their identity. Most of them are in the awkward stage where they are going to identify as gamers.

Broadly deciding to hate "gamers" seems like a broad generalisation, I'm not sure what utility it serves to helping socialism along.

I got this from an internet person:

Class-first leftists here will occasionally make arguments against hating on gamers too vituperatively ("they wouldn't even be reactionaries in the first place if leftists would stop insulting them all the time" etc), but class-last leftists have categorized "gamer identity" as a hostile outgroup (or as a component of the ur-outgroup, which is "unwoke working class white men") and feel that attacking it is a necessary component of their own process of identity-formation. The imbalance comes from the fact that defending gamers is a much lower priority for class-first leftists than attacking gamers is for class-last leftists.

Nah. The goal of that segment was to say that Santa Claus idolatry is extremely Christian, because Santa Claus is a Christian saint who was a badass that fought heretics. All I really remember was a big bearded dude in a robe saying "In the beginning...was the Word!" BOW WOW WE-EH-EH-EH and he's beating the snot out of a little guy who's clearly terrified of him.

There's another one where he argues that Christmas trees are Christian because pagans put them up to celebrate the solstice, and God created both trees and the solstice. Kirk Cameron is not exactly the Elizabeth Bruenig of prosperity theology.

Variations of this question got asked a few times through early church history, causing a great deal of strife. I mean, not nearly as many deaths as "this wafer represents Jesus" vs. "this wafer literally turns into the literal flesh of the literal physical body of Jesus when a priest puts it in your mouth," but yeah. Christian schisms are fun reading when you're in the right frame of mind for it and have no stake in the outcome.

Every once in awhile, I forget that this is what Catholics actually believe.

And I was raised Catholic. I mean, they taught it to us, but they're smart enough to de-emphasize it as much as possible.

The thing I don't get about the Arian schism is the underlying material conditions. Like, Marx called the English Civil War a bourgeois revolution, Wycliffe's theology challenged the entrenched power of wealthy clergy, and the Fraticelli require no explanation--but I don't know who materially benefited from an Arian interpretation of God. I believe Constantine's stance was "Oh my God can't you people shut up I don't loving care!"
