It's not stored locally on the phone; it's cloud-based. Requires a fingerprint to access on my phone, or a really loving long password with some 2FA thrown in.

Well, I got the Imgur thing as well, but luckily my password there is (like most of my passwords) totally unrelated to anything else, I kind of just make them whatwever pops into my head at the time. My old imgur password was something like "WaffleimagesIsBroken" or whatever.

I haven't got any imgur notifications, but my password is an old one that I don't really use on any other sites. That said, I really would like to use a good manager but I'm a little leary of a 3rd party program/app having access to literally my entire online account portfolio including banks, etc. You guys that are using managers, which ones do you use and how do you like them? Assuming you have access to them on multiple devices, how are they guaranteed secure so the manager itself isn't hacked and then spill the beans on everything you have? Sorry if these are silly questions, I'm not terribly educated on these.

slidebite posted:Assuming you have access to them on multiple devices, how are they guaranteed secure so the manager itself isn't hacked and then spill the beans on everything you have? Nothing is guaranteed secure. Password managers have been compromised in the past and will be in the future. I setup two factor authentication and geo location alerts on everything I can so they will have not only my username, password, personal info etc... but also need my phone. Which is less likely. You could lose your phone and then someone gets it and figures out who you are and buy your details then get access to stuff all in the time before you notice it is gone and cancel the service. Fairly unlikely but still a possibility. With more and more stuff you want secure being linked to your phone you really need to secure it. Things like the fingerprint security and facial recognition are ok but not foolproof but better than the swipe unlock a lot of people use. If you do hold the screen up to the level guy and see the oil from your hand leaving a smear that someone could follow and unlock it. Passwords to get in are ok but I use my thumb print. As you can see from this essay it is not an easy question to answer.

It would be trivial to snatch & run any number of phones I already had the code for in a public space. If my phone leaves my home wifi network or my work wifi network during times that I should be at each respective one, it requires a PIN. Otherwise I have no phone password because I'm lazy, though I do have both google's remote locator and cerberus installed, so I can remote nuke the phone if I lose it for more than a little bit. The banking apps and websites themselves are secured with separate PINs or other methods, and I never save banking login data. My phones are always cheap and a few generations old. For example, I'm using an S5 now, with a 64GB microSD card. If I were to lose the phone or location were to show it moving away from me, it's one button to nuke it from orbit and render it useless and delete my data. The convenience of not having to enter a password all the time outweighs my potential loss of $80 of electronics.

I recently picked up a moto g5 (S, plus), and it was a little over $200 and has a fingerprint reader. Way handy and opening the phone is easier than even with no password where you still have to push the power button and swipe. I also use the features that keep it unlocked at home or when connected to things like my garmin bike computer. I like it better than my previous moto x 3rd gen, which had half the screen die after a few months. Only downside is no nfc. I was using 2FA for a couple of logins, but then realized that if you lose or break your phone that doesn't work anymore. Been meaning to go to a password manager; what should I be using?

I use keepass (macpass when forced to use a mac) and have the password database file in onedrive so it syncs between all my computers and I don't have to worry (as much) about backing it up. I have yet to encounter a situation where I needed access to all my passwords on my phone so I haven't gone down that road. I don't really like the idea of having the password file in ~my butt~ but it has a reasonable master password (30ish characters with good complexity) with a fairly large work factor so realistically it's more likely AES 256 will be broken before someone could recover the password. Also multifactor auth on everything that supports it and change passwords yearly or so. Easily changing passwords is one of the hidden benefits of a password manager. You don't have to spend time thinking up and memorizing a new password - just click a button and you've got a new one. Just remember the order of operations of the password change so you don't generate a new password before the system asks for your old one. I like to either copy the old password out somewhere or duplicate the password record, change the password, and then delete the old one after verifying the new password works.

Keepass keeps a history of password (or other) changes for a record, if you open a record then navigate to the history tab you can find the old password there.

So the trip which was mostly flat, straight road @ 100km/h with some hills and a little town driving at the end to get to the destination was 16.98L/100km. Better but still terrible. When I got back I resumed research into the vacuum lines. An absolutely maddening thing is there are many and varied vacuum diagrams, lots of detailed manual information on all the different carburettor models, photos of carburettors, but absolutely no goddamn information whatsoever on where the vacuum lines connect to everything. Today I trialled yet another configuration based off a partial exploded diagram from a parts catalog and a photo of a carburettor from a Brazilian website. This time around the charcoal canister purge valve control line is connected to what I believe to be the distributor advance signal line. The smaller crankcase vent line is now connected to what seems to be a special variable restriction line instead of the air cleaner, and the canister purge line is now connected to the air cleaner instead of manifold vacuum. Nothing seems particularly different except when revving it in the driveway it sounded like it was backfiring a little on deceleration. Aaand the idle cutoff solenoid still doesn't affect the engine when I unplug it, yet the idle air bypass and fuel screws both work. Goddamn work of Baba Yaga or something. loving car. While I'm ranting. Today is the last day I have to get the repairs to the Jeep approved without requiring another complete re-inspection and needing to cough up another $65 for the privelidge. Damnit Tech's gonna take one look at the signal levels (which are drat near perfect), shrug, and say "ain't nothin I can fix", charge me the $50 for the service call, and leave. Spectrum's own speedtest shows as low as 0.01mbit before it times out. Seems to mostly be hanging around 3mbit (I have 100mbit). Speedtest.net shows similar poo poo. If only Verizon still ran FiOS out here. I tried getting a quote from Frontier anyway, but their system apparently thinks I'm giving a fake SSN and says I don't exist. e: sweet, directv now and netflix both fall under tmobile's "yeah stream all the video you want for free so long as you do it at SD resolutions" policy, so at least I can fall asleep abusing my LTE a bit. e2: okay maybe directv now doesn't, even though it's listed as being exempt... blew through a gig of data pretty quick. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 10:59 on Nov 27, 2017 |

Spectrum also claims they don't charge additional fees for the modems they provide - allegedly its built into the cost of your service - so worst case scenario you get an upgraded modem. I'd be a bit pissed about the situation if A) my modem hadn't already paid for itself before Charter/Spectrum acquired TWC and B) I'm getting better service now for less than I was under TWC. Fair warning... I am pretty terrible at video games and I finished the main storyline in just over 25 hours of play time and nowhere near the biggest baddest ship in the game. I was in the Destroyer from the mercenaries guild (fully kitted with level 6 stuff) and assumed I had a bunch more to go in the story, and did what turned out to be the final mission without too much trouble. I was expecting to need to be upgraded into a dreadnought, so just figured there was a lot more to go. If you get to a mission that takes you to Charon, be aware that there is only the final mission after that one. The game doesn't end when you finish the final mission, you can continue playing and amassing wealth and bigger ships to your hearts content after that. As someone who almost never completes games, I felt like the main storyline was just too short. For $5 though, it was very much worth it and I have no regrets and will probably be playing it some more, although with no real goals left (I have flown the largest ship in the game now) it probably doesn't have a lot of life left for me. I've actually downsized my ship since the top two dreadnoughts are just far too easy mode even for me! Enjoy the game though, for $5 it's a pretty good entertainment value.

Problem cleared up overnight, surprise surprise. Also, it's not really an "upgraded" modem to me; it's a combination modem/router, and they charge you to turn on wifi. I prefer to keep a separate modem and router. The modem/router they provided to my parents doesn't let you set it up in bridge mode, and needs to be power cycled a few times a week. Also has pretty weak wifi. My service hasn't changed any since the merger, but the phone reps tell me not to make any changes to my account if I value my upstream, including taking them up on a "free" modem (apparently that would transition me from my legacy plan?). I have 100/10, they don't offer 10 up without going to 200 down now (here, anyway). Also, they don't offer my rate plan anymore ($50).
