The Scorch is probably the best on that list and is the best brawling Clan assault if you don't have the MCII, but the Onion IIC is also very good and available for C-bills. Redline has a unique Ominpod, but it was only good before the SPL nerf. Partisan (BK Hero) is gimmicky crap and suffers from the dumb belly-belt mounts like all the other Black Knights. Ever since they normalized the quirks, Urbanmechs have become sturdy little brawlers, and the K-9 is the best among them. Keep in mind; you cant play an Urbabnmech like a Wolfhound or Firestarter. They're not fast enough to poke butts or pick apart a flank. However, they be tanky as fuuuuuck, so if you stick with the deathball and treat them more like a tiny medium, they can do work. The K9 is best played with the siren on a macro loop, so it never stops blaring as you charge screaming into the legs of enemy assaults. ...i have this macro if you want it.

Post it and put it in the OP. This is crucial goon material.

The K9 might just be my favourite mech as almost every time I take it out I have a blast. I've rotated through a lot of builds for it until I eventually settled on a 5MPL build. This gives you the punch to do damage within your normal fighting ranges, cuts down on required burn time to let you twist more and survive more as the 30-ton assault that you are while still letting you reach out and poke people outside knife fight ranges. You are nimble enough that most assaults can't keep up with your circling and some heavies can't either, but you are at your best working with one of your team's big boys, using them as cover to shoot who they shoot while poking and swinging behind an enemy they are already facefighting and burning their back to the ground while bodyblocking so they can't retreat. Also if your enemy is fresh out of a kindergarten paste-eating class, you might be able to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFHq7ftkfLo

I've been playing with my K2 again. I've got an XL315 + 2 UAC10's + 2 ER Med lasers on it. I nearly always get killed by centre torso hits so the XL seems to not make much difference. It's fun and fairly effective as long as I'm not too drunk

I'm always sad that the best way to run the K2 is with ballistics instead of PPCs. For a while 2PPC/1Gauss was pretty decent if slow, but ghost heat killed that off. Two heavy PPCs on their own feels underwhelming for a 65 ton mech, and balancing odd numbers of PPCs, some of which are outside of the arms, feels awkward.

When I want a 65 ton IS ballistic platform it's going to be a Jagermech or Roughneck, or maybe even a Dragon.

It prevents me from shooting folks with my Minneapolis. Also, if you have a good K9 constant siren macro please post it. Please double post it if there is a toggle key that lets me turn it on or off. A hotkey that allows me to roleplay a squad car is exactly the sort of thing I need to play this dumb game more often.

Ghost heat didn't touch the 2 PPC/1 gauss builds at all. Those were finally killed by a combination of desyncing the projectile speeds and the gauss charge mechanic.

Ghost heat is linked to PPCs now, so firing 2PPCs/1Gauss counts as ghost heat for the purposes of firing your PPCs. They did it because if you put the time into it you could completely dominate with builds using that, especially with the night gyr, kodiak, etc.

Yeah, they definitely did add ghost heat to the gauss/PPC combo. I'm not talking out my rear end, have a gander at Smurfy's: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/equipment if you hover over the little fire icon next to gauss rifle, it will inform you that there is a group penalty which is linked with PPCs. And because ghost heat always takes the highest heat weapon as the multiplier for the penalty, it's not a small increase, it's huge. I was really good at charging gauss, firing PPC, and firing the gauss in the split second after it to land all 35 damage on the right spot consistently. The projectile speeds and charge time made it so you had to git gud to use PPC/gauss, but they definitely did not kill the combo. What killed it was making it more heat efficient to just fire 3 PPCs instead of 2 PPC 1 Gauss by linking gauss into the PPC ghost heat group.

I bought a DRG-FLAME. Not that it has any basis on the PPC/Gauss chat, but I thought I'd share that it's not complete garbage. That ballistics hardpoint on the left shoulder is awesome at cockpit level. I slapped a Gauss in it and can hump hills with the best of them. I'm wondering if I could get away with an AC20 build or a UAC20 build with it. I feel it makes a better long range support heavy though.

The Roughneck whisperer is back boys. Had a vision during a zonked out session of random youtubes. What if I put MRMs on a Roughneck? Whoa! They don't call me the Mech Geniuse for nothing. Feast your eyes on this bad boy: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=536&l=e29a134e416bb602ddd67d2be7e75948ead847aa No heat issues, no ammo issues, tanky as gently caress with maxxed out survival tree. It's got it all. And of course I have the screenshots to back it up, I always back my boasts up with HARD FACTS! Soloed the last 4 mechs, STK-3F, HBR-A (HLLs), ANH-1X and a 1 ACH-PRIME. You better believe I had to wipe my mouse off after that one. Suck it haters. TjyvTompa fucked around with this message at 21:10 on Nov 27, 2017 |

I've been wanting to buy a Roughneck- they look cool, have high mounts, and good survival quirks, but every time I think about grinding out another 91 skill points my desire evaporates.

I'm surprised they haven't gone and said 'mechs you buy with cash come fully skilled out'.
|
# ? Nov 27, 2017 22:05 |

Why would they ever do that? The new skill system is probably making them a fair bit of money off impatient assholes like me who're willing to burn MC on converting XP so they can avoid playing lovely unskilled mechs. Cause holy poo poo, have you tried playing a laser boat without Ops and Firepower? It is painful.

I got in on this game at release but stopped playing when they added consumables, so it's probably been a couple of years since I've played. I picked up the K9 on sale after reading all the posts about it, and now I just need the macro for the full experience! TIA

Atlas pilot was recruited directly from T5. He smashed into a building, player ran around it, he chased after the player, smashed into another building. Eventually the player ended up in front of him, he fired one medium laser, and then ran into another building.
