New PTU Build Patch Notes posted:The Star Kitten Dragonfly should now properly appear in game. Maybe reminding everyone of the last big CIG controversy will help people forget about this one? CIG is really outdoing itself today.

They aren't selling ships, they're selling the ability to claim ships from a ship terminal. It's completely different.

So it'd be logical that they'd start selling buildings next. Wrong. Mining is going to be implemented in 3.1 which is right around the bend. You'll obviously want to take core samples of potential claims, and only choose the most lucrative mining spot.

I think they're going to do the classic price anchoring technique: - Really lovely tiny outpost that will embarrass you in front of your peers: $100 - Regular player outpost that everyone will be expected to buy: $250 - Ridiculously expensive outpost to make the regular outpost seem cheap: $750 (Clifford will buy three)

And this will be available for everyone in-game without spending real money. I just can't get over how CIG can come out and say "Nuh uh" even though they are very clearly and deliberately selling land and half of their fans will run out and start correcting people immediately. THEY SAID THEY WEREN'T SO THEY AREN'T IT'S JUST COINCIDENTAL THAT IT'S CALLED A TERRAIN CLAIM BEACON AND YOU USE IT TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO BE ON YOUR LA- I MEAN NOT YOUR LAND BECAUSE THAT WOULD IMPLY OWNERSHIP Sarsapariller fucked around with this message at 01:02 on Nov 29, 2017 |

Sarsapariller posted:I just can't get over how CIG can come out and say "Nuh uh" even though they are very clearly and deliberately selling land and half of their fans will run out and start correcting people immediately. This allows the UEE to later charge ground rent on your leasehold property (presumable based on mineral content, etc) in addition to property tax on the value of all improvements. And it also makes it unable to be subdivided, resold, or leased out to other players. An outright sale of the land via a deed would be problematic in this regard. Which ever way you look at it, it's just another big old chunk of technical debt. Only, it's not specified by the game, or the engine, it's specified by the player, the end user and where he plants his 'safe space stick'. CIG have just told the world, that they don't mind having griefers, they don't mind their playerbase being griefed and trolled in game, because they can potentially make money from players wanting to feel safe, they have literally just privatized and monetized GOONFEAR. The pvp slider is completely redundant, because if it were a thing then the 'safe space sticks' would be useless once the slider was set to 'pve' or 'nice people only' mode. YOU HEAR THAT B'TAK? No safe spaces or protection from griefing unless you throw notes at CIG, and they just made you their bitch.

Tijuana Bibliophile posted:what's going on with star citizen my man? i sorta checked out around citcon Your absence is the thread’s loss, TB. Post CitizenCon has been a bit of a lull, but here’s a highlight reel (I’m not current on the thread so apologies if this is repeats.) 1) YouTube Streamer “FailureToReport”, who had transitioned gradually over the last many months intonte Skeptic camp, finally crossed the Rubicon, went full Heretic, got an SA account, had fisticuffs with the Internet’s most inexhaustible slapfighter, and then dropped a pro-tier level work of firebombing Citizen trollery on his YouTube channel. 2) Longtime SC Trades mod (and presumably a disinterested facilitator of transactions) Jester ended up creating a conspicuous evidence trail suggesting he had an alt with which he bought ships. 3) /DerekSmart subreddit was turned to read-only mode prior to 3.0’s launch. Victory was declared by all parties across the spectrum and now the past denizens (including that hot British model, BooHuxley, who just loves her some space sims because OF COURSE HOT MODELS WOULD!) are seeking refuge elsewhere and bringing their compulsive, never-ending dialogue about the absolutely irrelevant “never was” that must nevertheless always always always be invoked, discussed, dissected, insulted, countered, mocked due to the extent of his irrelevance. 4) MOMA is mostly chill and remains a welcome voice of contrast. 5) CIG is getting into the virtual real estate business and everyone is delighted about it. 6) The thread has some welcome new participants with unique insights and contributions. 6) Dreams are happening. Always.

Not sure why goons are having a hard time believing CIG when they say they aren't selling land. CIG is being truthful with the statement they aren't selling land. Sure CIG is selling land claim stakes--but there will never, ever be any game mechanic to support actually using the stake to claim land. This is the same development house that removed the tutorial from the game because they couldn't get missles to work. The same bunch of coders that hasn't created ANY actual game mechanics.

Reaction to land grab not good. Implement panic plan. Step one, damage control on spectrum. Step two, sell something else, we need money bad.
