Vegetable posted:I gotta say I never saw the point of desecrating a corpse, it’s the equivalent to hitting a bush with a stick, doesn’t actually do anything Older religions placed a significant correlation between treatment of one's corpse/funerary rites and admittance to the afterlife. Beyond just proving that you had kicked someone's rear end to the nth degree, desecrating the corpse also potentially kept them out of heaven or otherwise cursed them to wander the earth as a ghost, just as a final "gently caress you". It also sent a message to that corpse's allies that you didn't fear or give a poo poo about inviting curses or wrathful spirits upon yourself for doing that poo poo.

Rocksicles posted:I stopped watching after Branch went off the reservation, so to speak. Oh man, it gets real good in the middle. Season 2-4 are the best seasons. Season 5 felt like it was a setup for a really epic and conclusive season 6, and then... season 6 was bad and the ending was bad. The finale of S5 sets up a really great ideological evil and conflict that is perfect for the fractured cast to unite against and bring their character arcs to a close. They wrap this premise up uncermoniously a couple episodes into the final season with "well that thread is erased from the plot now" and go back to "WHAT IF NIGHTHORSE IS ACTUALLY THE REAL VILLAIN???!!!!!?!?! (he's probably not BUT HE MIGHT BE! (he's not))" It's loving dumb. The very last shot of the show is pretty good/funny, so there's that, I guess.

I'm so torn on whether to jump in on this show or not. I have friends that loving LOVE it and others saying watching paint dry is more interesting. I know it's Netflix, but I assume it was one of those international co-productions so it's also weird that it's 10 episodes and not the usual 3-6 that Britain does

It's very good, but ymmv if you don't care much about Elizabeth II and the royal family. If you're the kind of person who loves watching shows for good acting I'd say it's worth it, also. I love period dramas + the royals so it was 100% my jam, personally. It's by the dude who wrote The Queen, so if you like that maybe watch it.

In a perfect world they'll get to the final season, which iirc is supposed to be before or during Di's death, and he'll just recast Helen Mirren.

Party Plane Jones posted:GOT is around 10 million an episode; The Crown on Netflix had a 130m budget over 10 episodes. The Crown's producers have strongly denied this is the case. Latest speculation I saw was that price was probably the total of the initial deal, which was for the first two seasons. Most expensive, counting overruns is probably The Get Out or Goliath. Wasn't The Get Out price rumoured to be getting up towards $20 million an episode? And Goliath season 2 is such a cluster-gently caress that they spent $65 million before getting a single episode in the can.

Mozart in the Jungle was really popular for a while then kind of went away. A lot of their shows get an initial burst of popularity and free marketing from reviews but a few months later nothing anywhere. Even Sneaky Pete just kind of stopped being talked about.

It's pretty funny, easily the most consistently funny thing the Paladinos have done. (It's also got that same love of exceedingly wealthy basically conservative people that Gilmore Girls has, which puts my teeth on edge.) But the show's cool, whatever.

Man, sneaky Pete was awesome though. Guy who just got prime, go watch Patriot, Sneaky Pete, and The Tick. The tick is only 6 20-30 minute episodes (the second half of the season is coming in February) so you can watch all of it in an afternoon. It's fantastic.
