Maybe it's just because this show is usually way too slow-paced because it wants to be "deep" or whatever, but apparently giving a few fucks goes a long way to making it fun again. Carol and Daryl getting ready to rescue Beth. S4 finale, penned in the cannibals' herding crate. Reactions to being trolled by Jesus. All properly gently caress-ified in Blu-Ray and DVD formats. For whatever reason, AMC won't show the characters being crude and vulgar in everyday conversation but is very cavalier about showing mindless shambling corpses and people getting violently torn to shreds. I just caught up and maybe it was just the mood I was in, but the last two episodes were insanely boring. Why even bother with the trash people again? He had to know they weren't good potential allies, just leave them alone in the trash. e: i also don't get why the uncensored negan speech is better. the problem is the bones of the character are bad, and a cult being built around him is not believable. he’s very two dimensional. his origin episode will be much more interesting than the present generic bad guy with a potty mouth that he is. The governor (tv, can’t speak for the comic) was more interesting as a villain because he was actually reasonable and sort of charismatic at first, he had some dimensions to his psychosis, and he ran a community that resembled human beings, one where being aggressive in scavenging had logic to it. Negan is physical intimidation and plot armor and that’s it, and his society structure is so evil and stupid that trying to go for “both sides are morally ambiguous” doesn’t work because the bad guys here are just taking everyone’s poo poo; and their society is built around subjugation, sexual slavery (but no RAPE totally different????); and insane cruel punishment. so him saying gently caress a lot makes him more intimidating in that opening scene, but is also bad because it makes his stupid sophomoric side worse, and his society being anything other than a bandit gang makes no sense. he’s a bad character that poor JDM is doing his best with. in conclusion,

True, he's more a Mad Max villain than a truly grounded one, but that's not the problem. The problem is ENTIRELY the plot armor for me. The fact he acts like a characterization and puts on a show doesn't bother me. The fact that he stands around in super duper easy murder range while giving EVERYONE a reason to want to murder him, however, is dumb as all gently caress. People keep wanting to go "But, but, real dictators and personality cults and.." well, here's the thing: People try to kill real dictators. A loving lot. Even Stalin didn't go around unescorted in the countryside of Russia with a baseball bat randomly murdering people while telling them to lick his balls, and if he did, he'd been dead as poo poo.

His plot armor is the most ridiculous thing about the show now. And it's UNNECESSARY. They didnt HAVE to put him in all these situations where just one shot would end him, like right after that meeting when 20 people guns at the ready are right there, or the minister had the gun. It's just aggravating.

The big thing I don't like about Negan is that everyone, 'friend' or foe is so terrified of him. He is just a man with a bat. A former school teacher, not some ex Delta Force colonel. He doesn't even have a huge group of fanatical underlings loyal to him like a traditional dictator, because it seems like even his right hand man and the rest of the inner circle hate him. That lack of loyalty kills the tension a bit for me. I guess they did try and show it a bit more in the lead up to his reveal, but now Im not really feeling it. His followers aren't attached to an ideology or nationalism - its all just for convenience and survival. If Dwight decided to shoot Negan right before being found a traitor none of the followers would shed a tear and would just end up with whoever wins the power struggle at the top.

We just watched the most recent two episodes and it was really hard to pay attention. I'm actually not entirely sure what happened other than Negan getting back to the Saviours. This is the first series that nobody at work (I work for a broadcaster in the UK who broadcasts Walking Dead) is talking about it either. The first two episodes lost so many. It just feels stupid now more than anything.

Are the saviors all monsters or are they people, what message do they wanf to send? drat this sucks. I’m legit rooting for the trash people. To be fair the show seems to actually be handling Negan in a smarter way. In the comics the big climax was Rick going "Hey maybe all this war kills people and we need people to do things?" and Negan is like "Oh gently caress! I literally never considered that!" In the show Negan at least said "People are a resource" so he can't be completely defeated by the argument that the war isn't actually constructive. I guess it's always possible they have him trip down some stairs and go into a coma and have an entire season where Rick keeps him alive so he can stand for his crimes.
