I get the meta joke, but is anyone else concerned about how much Terrence & Phillip aged out of nowhere?

TheFattestPat posted:I get the meta joke, but is anyone else concerned about how much Terrence & Phillip aged out of nowhere? I think that is very metaphorically relevant. Possibly for Matt and Trey. And in general it probably works for a ton of celebrities who are still doing their thing way past their prime.

Canadian prams have square wheels, ha. I'm not sure if it's relevant that old man farts have real potency. Ghost Leviathan fucked around with this message at 14:44 on Nov 30, 2017 |

That episode had potential, it just missed. Nothing really added up. Like Canada getting nuked and all the people screaming and getting blasted through the air was almost funny. But it wasn't. And Mr/Mrs Mackey having a conversation in front of the staff was almost funny. But it wasn't. And Kyle turning into Sheila will never be funny. Ever. Because Sheila isn't funny 99% of the time. And rehashing the TV interview from the movie was almost funny. But nope. I kinda feel like this was an episode where Trey had to cut 50 pages down to 25 in order to get the show done and it just didn't work.

Evaluating this episode is tough for the same reason it was tough to know what to think of 90% of season 20 as it aired. I assume next week will be a direct continuation that wraps things up. I could be wrong, but that's what it feels like. They left a lot hanging.

I felt like they could have used a whole episode of Vice Principal Strong Woman shutting down PC Principal. I loved that gag and her, well really only, scene was great. I honestly thought when PC Principal was first introducing her that she was going to be Hillary Clinton. I liked T&P being aged because there is a big nostalgia movement right now and this is a good take on a shot at that. I guess they thought their Netflix joke was good enough that they reused it. I guess I can agree with people that the episode was a bit all over the place but I felt like the jokes were pretty good. Though essentially 3 music scenes back to back was a bit much.

That episode was alright except for yet another misfire in the Cartman/Heidi plot (and, subsequently, Kyle's campaign). Cartman having to deal with the monster he created (and struggling to find ways to do so) was fun last week and it looked like an escalation of that might continue this week until they pulled the old "Let's pile on the Jew!" card again and you knew it was an opportunity wasted.

I thought it was really good. I cracked up every time Hootie got going and lost it when it went straight into Man in the Mirror. Sorry if it didn't "gel" with your "nihilism". (I know that's not the main criticism, I just happened to also enjoy that joke).

There was talk of killing Cartman. This was obviously wrong. However, killing Kyle and his whole family wouldn't be so bad. Have Kenny take off his hood and be the beautiful blonde foul mouthed boy we have been waiting for for 15 years. Maybe have Craig join the team. It would be fine. We need Cartman. We need Stan (for Randy.) The show can survive with just that. Who cares about a conscience. Death to Kyle.

Yeah that episode was really good. I didn’t really take old Terrence and Phillip as a meta joke at all. They were just making fun of Netflix for digging up aging stars and reviving old shows.bobjr posted:I did like the HR person being female Mackey. The Hootie Removal person?

That’s not really true. Rick & Morty features the main character making GBS threads himself sloppily and covering a room in diarrhea, South Park isn’t even on the cutting edges of grossing people out and haven’t been for years

WillieWestwood posted:Yes, and they may just not renew anymore. It's getting to the point where they're the oldest guys in the room still making fart jokes, just as the elderly Terrance & Phillip were doing this episode. But they don't have to make the fart jokes. They are still funny but definitely have lost course. Almost every decision they have made about the show has made it worse. It might be better for them, but the show has suffered. These are the two big ones: Going from two 7 episode mini season to 1 10 episode season has: a - given them more time away from the show so more of a startup time to get in rhythm once they start again and b - fewer episodes mean fewer good episodes and more crap due to how much a bad episode drags down a season as opposed to a good one lifting it

"How dare you! We're second-world, at least!" I did like a lot of little gags here and there in this episode, even if it wasn't great as a whole. Their Canada stuff is just always funny.

I guess they thought their Netflix joke was good enough that they reused it. It's more than their old "Netflix will green light anything" joke or nostaliga. It's poking fun at Netflix specifically dragging out old comics who haven't done anything meaningful in years (Chapelle, Seinfeld, etc...) and giving them waaaay too much money to make stand-up specials that don't hold up today. Chapelle got $60 million for three Netflix specials, the first two of which were pretty loving cringeworthy. Seinfeld got $100 million. And that's not even getting into all the money they threw at Adam Sandler to make low-effort movies of him standing around looking disinterested.

Also bringing back old shows that never should have been green lit, for Nostalgia poo poo. Re-Boot is getting a movie. Fuller House. I think they're still doing a How to Train Your Dragon cartoon. A weird pieced together Arrested Development, more Wet Hot American Summer.

If I ever come in this thread and see everyone praising the episode, I'm gonna know that I'm in for a really bad episode. The direction Cartman and Heidi has taken is really funny to me with even the boys just treating her like she's one of them now. I loved their fight scene.
