It reminds me a lot of the trash "affordable housing" that NYC has. Where in order to qualify to buy you have to be making like <30k/yr or whatever, but you also happen to have millions of dollars of cash on hand.

So for example, since Trump technically makes $0 a year from his job as President, he would qualify for NYC affordable housing.

Unironically this is actually a good take for the Democrats.

It's because they've been shut out of the debate and they can dunk on the republicans for not following conservative jesus #3, the Reagan

That's the only reason.

hillary clinton unironically pushed 'tax credits for student debt of entrepreneurs' at the same time she was criticizing bernie's tax plan of free public college for potentially being able to subsidize trump's kids (with the implication trump's kids aren't going to a private school)

at the rate of incrementalism of hillary clinton's platform, you might've been able to get a small tax credit not indexed to cost of living for students at public community colleges in rural areas for STEM majors who are also working to qualify for the tax credit by the year 2096

Don't forget the amazing wonkery of increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit (which doesn't affect poor people at all) as an alternative to you know, actual affordable housing (i.e. Section 8).

Also the result won't be electing more democrats

It'd just be electing different GOP that lie to the voters.
Getting new blood makes the GOP temporarily weaker, which the Dems can prey on.

The tides of the cycle then continue, as it always ever has.

There are certainly some people who are poor and EITC does affect them, but you know what would be even better? Additional Section 8 housing.

No, those are the maximum incomes you can earn to get the EITC. So you don't get it if you make more than 15K with no kids, 45K with one kid, etc. (So it basically affects a specific subset of the working poor; since you don't get it if you don't have any income either, I think.)

I do agree we need way more Section 8 housing. (Or even better: mandate that rents must be tied to a max percentage of the tenant's income, subsidize all housing for low/no income people, and make discrimination on the basis of income illegal.)
