That's fine if you don't understand it, but try to get over it. Much like a piece of white paper, it will turn yellow if in the sunlight for enough time, and then eventually brown, a most cursed colour. Unless they're already cursed and are born a most unenviable shade. Seriously, spend enough time and you can see the yellow / olive oil complexion.

I wonder how that's going to go over regarding foreign policy. Ol' Two Scoops was big on stopping Mexico sending druggers over the border, I wonder if his song is the same for one of Uncle Xi's boys.

One of the girls I used to "hang out with" works for one of those party companies that arrange huge parties for tuhao and other people that like wasting money on useless shows of wealth. I've always been utterly shocked at the extravagance in these parties, and doubly shocked when I find out the whole thing was for a baby. I've been actually disgusted by some of the shows of wealth these people do, yet it never crossed my mind to ask what the price is for some of them. Today I got curious. I know Korea does this, but I didn't know Chinese sometimes celebrate the "100 days old" thing for their kids. These parties are kind of tame, just mom and her mom friends all bringing their lovely kids into a large decorated room. What is normal is that the mother takes account of who is coming, how old their kids are, and then they get custom-made outfits for every baby there, so they all look the same and it's "cute" (and very expensive). She said a basic small party might cost 10k RMB ($1500 USD), but that is only for renting the place, the decorations, and entertainment (a balloon guy). The food, baby clothes, and party favors cost extra. The total might usually come out to about 30k RMB ($4540 USD). This is just for a very basic 100-days-old party. The real parties are for the one-year birthday. There are basic parties for the "poor" people that resemble the costs listed above, but every week there is at least two major parties by very rich people. The average, according to her, is around 100k RMB ($15,133 USD), but it's normal to see much higher prices. These are events that rival major company holiday parties for all the staff. The family will invite everyone they know and do everything possible to show how wealthy they are. There are costs that even she doesn't know, because they only arrange the place and get the performers and do smaller things. The ordering family will usually arrange the caterer to work with them, and they will choose the gift bags for the guests and other stuff that they bring in from outside. A while ago the girl had to work a 24-hour shift to set up the venue as well as be part of the hosting team. They had a full staff of laborers with small cranes to prepare the stage and hang everything up. There were multiple performances by singers, clowns, dancers, magicians, and others. There were party favors and gift bags for kids and adults. Catering by a very expensive restaurant. It goes on. I asked her to break down that single party: Venue and performers: 150k RMB ($22,700 USD) Catering: 2000 RMB per person, 160 people - 320k RMB ($48,422 USD) Gift bags: She estimated they were 2-3K RMB per bag, per person - 320k RMB minimum ($48,422 USD) Worker crew with crane: 10K RMB ($1500 USD) There are more costs, such as clothes, imported alcohol and gift cigarettes brought from other sources, etc., but just that total alone is 800k RMB ($121,056 USD). I imagine it was minimum 1MM RMB What did her and her team make for that? Nothing. They are all on salary, it's just unpaid overtime. This is China. She kept sending me videos of the performers, and then the baby celebration itself. The mother stood in the middle of the room holding the baby, while all of the other mothers and their matching babies sat around in her in a big circle. Everyone sang "happy birthday" and a huge thing of balloons and confetti was dropped. The baby had no idea what was going on, of course, since it was a year old. After that party, I asked her to stop sending me photos and videos of the various parties she is working, because it is gross.

One of my most embarrassing moments at uni was being invited to the 21st party of a mate who was from Hong Kong. I asked him if it was going to be formal or anything because I had no idea how people from Hong Kong did parties, he said no, just a few mates and family so dress "comfortably". So I rocked up in my usual uni attire which could be best described as hobo chic but without the chic. The "mates and family" turned out to be about 300 super rich expat Hong Kongers, a full bar, enough food to end world hunger and every single person wearing clothes which cost more than I had probably ever made in my life by that point. I spent the entire night in the middle of an invisible force field as everyone did their best to avoid the crazy homeless guy and the aunties would even pick up the nicer dishes and move them away when I came near the food tables while staring me directly in the eyes.

That is just magical. My wife and I just flew to Orlando and were on a plane with a bunch of mainlanders on their way to DISNEY!!!!!! Rose gold iPhone in one hand blaring music, passport in the other hand for the entire flight. Tried to get off the plane as soon as we reached the gate, other passengers be damned. My wife had the unfortunate experience of trying to use the lavatory after one of the mainlander guys had been in there. Piss. Piss everywhere. She thinks he might have spun a full 360 while pissing. She used the lav on the other end of the plane instead.
