"I win the pick em instead of TMMadman if, and only if, anyone can stop the Panderers" is roughly equivalent to saying you're gonna have a big payday if only the Generals can beat the Globetrotters.

EC TEAMS!
Pick them!
Pick the winner (1 point), number of games (3 points), and final score of the final game (up to 10 points; someone else can explain)
1.) Mexico City Machineguns at Shelbyville Sharks
2.) Joliet Jailbirds at Brooklyn Giants

Okay, since no one likes explaining in the thread and I did the EC Pick'em for a few seasons:

- If you correctly guess the final score of the last game in the series while having also picked the winner of the series, you gain 10 Points.
- If you come within 1 run on either side of the final score while also fulfilling the above conditions (having picked the winner), you gain 4 points.

For example, if I picked:

Machineguns in 6, Final Score 8-3
Giants in 5, Final Score 6-5
(those are my actual picks, ftr)

then I would gain 10 points if the Machineguns win their final game 8-3, or 4 if they win their final game 9-2, 9-3, 9-4, 7-2, 7-3, 7-4, but earn a big fat goose egg if the Sharks win!

Assuming this is ALL CORRECT!!!

Fairgame has a huge lead near the end with 20 points left to distribute. However, due to the fact that the Vietnam Big Daddies are not going to the playoffs, Me, Shepard & The McD are mathematically out of the running.

TMMadman is the only one standing in fairgames way! So:

IF TOWA CITY DEMON HUNTERS WIN TOMORROW:

Fairgame wins the Pick 'Em no matter what happens in the Super League World Series

IF JOILET JAILBIRDS WIN TOMORROW

TMMadman can still win. However, the Panderers would need to win the World Series. This would put the final score at:

TMMadman - 142
Fairgame - 139

So that's your update. As always you can see the full spreadsheet for yourselves here.

Such a system would arguably be much more akin to the Electoral College. Counting partial victories leads to broader representation and is very much counter to the winner take all principles of the EC.

Smasher Dynamo
Oct 16, 2008

Eternal Commissioner of the Super League. A new avatar. A new age, of the same old embittered Smasher that failed to escape the bonds of the SL, FM3, Johnny Hopp and Eri Yoshida "The Knuckle Princess". "The flames of Smasher's ire scorch the skies... Igniting St. Bellhorn's funeral pyre."

Super-League XXIII, Wildcard Round

: Okay, let's take care of these losers that couldn't even be bothered to win their own divisions.
: But they tried!
: Since when does that matter? BAH! This season is long enough without this extra round for losing losers that lose!

Dynamo League Wildcard Game: The Hague Honkbalers @ Motorville Mites

: Introducing first, the visiting team. They are evil. Just evil. They are from the Hague, and we can only pray that global warming overcomes Dutch engineering to destroy that city and the Honkbalers along with them. I have nothing good to say about this team or their owner. They're bad. No one root for The Hague Honkbalers.

: And their opponents, who are the good guys in this scenario by default, they come from a land of mists and journeys, eons away from our base world, where magic has lease, and hopes are more than mere illusions. The team of the Super-League Ombudsman, they seek to save us all from the Dutch menace. Ladies and gentlemen, the Motorville Mites!

: Thoughts, Yoshida?
: The Honkbalers have more talent, but the Mites are better balanced. The Honkbalers have bad fielding, to put it mildly, and a bullpen that has ranged from the bad to the really, really, really bad. In a close game, they're at a substantial disadvantage. In fairness, mks5000's plan is to beat the other team into submission so it isn't a close game in the later innings.

: And we'll pick things up in the bottom of the ninth. Honkbalers up 8-2, and the end is near for the Mites.
: Even the Honkbalers' bullpen isn't bad enough to blow this one.
: Eddie Collins up first, and he'll single off Rube Walberg to start things off. But Cecil Travis flies out, and the Mites could not afford that out.
: Two outs left and six runs to score. It's just too much.
: Mike Megatheny up, and he'll hit a screaming double to deep left, and runners at second and third with one out. Omar Vizquel up, and he'll single home a run. It's 8-3.
: Still a long way to go. And mks5000 hasn't called for anyone to warm up, he's going to let Walberg play this out.
: Pitcher's spot up for the Mites, and easy call to bring in a pinch-hitter. Sam Thompson at the plate, and he hits another single off Walberg, who just can't seem to miss any bats. Tris Speaker up next, and he hits a long fly ball into the right-field gap! It doesn't leave the yard, but it will be a triple! Two runs score, and it's 8-6!
: You have to wonder how much longer mks5000 can live with Walberg out there.
: Billy Hamilton grounds to first, but Foxx isn't going to be able to make any play home, and he'll take the sure out, but it's 8-7!
: The good news is that the bases are empty, and the Mites don't hit a lot of home runs.
: Mel Ott now taking his turn, and he'll single! Eddie Murray up, and he'll take the walk! The tying run is in scoring position! Five runs in already, and the Mites are still alive. And FairGame is going to pinch-hit for Collins! He's bringing in Ed Delahanty off the bench.
: They're both good hitters, but Delahanty is a righty, and Walberg is a lefty. Assuming that mks5000 doesn't take him out. Like he really, really needs to.
: He won't! Walberg stays in the game! He first pitch is right down the center! It's like he's challenging Delahanty, who makes contact, and sends it...right into Alan Trammell's glove. Game over. Honkbalers win 8-7.
: Oh. Well, I guess at least mks5000 is happy! He's probably the only person on Earth who is happy with that, but, hey it's something!

Smasher League Wildcard Game: Kobe Crows @ Portland Panderers

: Introducing first the visiting team, a long-time participant in the Super-League, they are the former two-time tag team champions of the world, and I think they might have won the Sub-Par League once, but that just means they were the 25th best team in the league one season. I don't know, it's the Kobe Crows.
: Wow. What is that theme? It might be the worst thing ever. I don't think that's how mashups are supposed to work.
: It may be the most fitting theme for the Crows I could have ever found.

: And their opponents, they are the one-time Television Champions, the one-time Interim United States Champions, the two-time Intercontinental Champions, the two-time Triple Crown Champions, the one-time Grand Slam Champions, the one-time Omni-Champions, the three-time former Senor Goodtimes Division Champions, the three-time reigning and defending Smasher League Champions and the former Super-League Champions of the World, from Portland, Oregon, they are the knife that cuts deeps, the Portland Panderers!

: I don't anyone thinks the Crows will pull this off. But hey, maybe HulkaMatt will prove us wrong.
: If they do win, will that be a big enough miracle for you to promise never to play that horrible mashup again?
: I mean, it would have to be a pretty impressive win for that to happen.

: Huh.
: They one-hit the Panderers! It's a sign! To bury that mashup and never make anyone listen to it again!
: I don't know. If they had no-hit the Panderers? Maybe. But one-hit? I have to think about that.
: Smasher, please, that mashup is the worst thing you've ever done for the Super-League! And surely by actually not failing the Crows have proven they deserve better.
: Perhaps. It is something I will have to consider. Later. Not now. Now, I must rest.

The lineup I used for the Panderers is what I’m going with vs. the Widows

quote:

SS - Honus Wagner (R)

DH - Babe Ruth (L)
CF - Mickey Mantle (S)
3B - George Brett (L)

Looking back it seems the only pitcher that got completely demolished by the widows each time out was Lefty Grove. So I’m going with the usual:

YKNOW THERES ONLY ONE DIRECTION I KNOW AND THATS DRIVIN STRAIGHT TO THE NET

Playoffs baby!

First off, let's set up the pitching. Let's go with a 3-man rotation, with both Walshes and Lefty Grove. The rested Walsh can start games 1 and 4, the almost rested Walsh can get games 2 and 5, and Grove can get game 3.

And the bullpen:

code:
MU - Waddell
MU - Fernandez
CL - Kimbrel
SU - Wagner
SR - Miller
SR - Strasburg
MR - Sale
LR - Smoltz
Then, the lineup vs. both I guess since the Crows only have righties in the rotation:

code:
2B - Collins
LF - Hamilton
CF - Cobb
RF - Keeler
SS - Twonus Wagner
DH - Hornsby
1B - Honus Wagner
C - Berra
3B - Brett
And the bench:

code:
C - Hartnett
1B - Pujols
IF - Vaughan
3B - Kell
LF - Henderson
