I would not know one way or the other, but this thread on the California Superbike School forums says using warmers on rain tires is A Bad Idea(tm). They might not need to heat up much to have traction. I'd assume tread life would be utter poo poo if it's not actually wet.

Are race wets not serviceable tires for street use? I know race tires in general are bad, and slicks are bad, and used tires are bad, but wouldn't that tire work ok?

I wouldn't have thought so, the issue is they're still race tyres with a very narrow temperature happy zone compared to street tyres which work well in all sorts of conditions. As others have said, wets in the dry get annihilated really quickly but that guy looks like a pretty slow/incompetent rider so gently caress knows. They certainly aren't legal so he'll have to take them off before his inspection anyway. Makes no sense.

They do need to heat up but will heat up much, much quicker than slicks because the cuts let the rubber move around more.

On the road you'll probably still never get them up to temp, so they'll be slippery as gently caress in the dry and deadly in the wet unless you run them at like 8psi, which brings its own set of fun.

Race wets would probably be ok but would just have insanely short life.

To answer the original question though: because I got them for cheap/free

It's probably this TBH.

Literbikes here are expensive enough that people without much money/sense can juuust afford to buy a crappy rundown one and then find themselves totally unable to afford tyres and other stuff. Like that bike is worth about 4,500-5000NZD in it's current condition, or you could buy an absolutely immaculate 919/SV1000/Z1000 or whatever. But nope gotta have them fairings bro.

ERM... Actually I have stellar scores on the surveys, and every year students tell me that my classes are the best ones they’ve ever taken.
Near as I can tell from that review the main advantage it has over an FZ-07 is that the exhaust pops sometimes on the 2-3 shift.

My Hawk pops like a popcorn popper on the overrun, come at me bro

I dig the space under the seat, too, though now I'm wondering what fell off from there.

I was riding down Mt. Hamilton day before yesterday and followed for about 5 minutes a guy on a bicycle, both of us going about 30-35 miles an hour and no safe places for me to pass. All I could think of was how we're both going the same speed on the same terrain and I'm wearing armored leather and he's got half a millimeter of Lycra.

also came across this one which is great for the comment "Michael J. Fox has better throttle control"

It might not be $1500 worth. In the description it says that the rider was a guy visiting from Taiwan, and his suit was strange because it was a textile suit with knee sliders, which is apparently something Alpinestars doesn't make, and it blew apart at the seams when he crashed. Soooo it might have been a knockoff.

Don't buy fake gear, guys.

Yeah the lack of crash protection crosses my mind when I'm on my road bike. No one really makes a full face helmet for road bikes. Best bet is to find a light weight xc helmet and look like a dweeb. At least they make mountain bike pads that can fit under a baggy shirt.

I wonder what part of Tokyo this scooter culture is in. I saw a handful of big spaceship scooters like this, but none of them were modded.

For that matter, where do these guys even have room to work on their bikes? It's not like anyone in Tokyo has their own garage/workshop.
