People have told me Rune Factory 4 on 3ds is good but it looks like garbage to me. Maybe it is good but I won't ever find out unless it's on sale for 5 bucks

if you dont mind emulation you could play one of the old harvest moons. I love Harvest Moon 64. I didnt have a ps1 but when i was a kid i saw a strategy guide for the harvest moon ps1 game in a bargain bin and bought it and would just look at the pictures and read about all the mechanics that were different from 64 and get really excited. Ive still never played it

The problem with Harvest Moon is everyone has a favorite which someone else inevitably says is the absolute worst thing to ever happen in gaming, so it's hard to tell which one to actually start

Here's a cheat I still remember: if you go to the horse track and put a max bet on a horse and thenhit cancel the game doesnt take any money but the bet still stands so you can put 99999999 bets on every horse and have infinite money.

Fungah! posted:the ideas fun but the game isnt polished at all and the combat is the worst seconded. the combat is rear end and also the farming isn't fun because there are weird soil depletion mechanics with no crop rotation to make up for it so you either have to farm like some idiot 17th century French peasant who constantly farms the same crops over and over again and starves to death from bad yields or like some insane khrushchev disciple on a fanatical hunt for virgin lands with 9 different far away fields to tend every morning

my friend is living in japan right now and played through DQ11 and loving loved it, i think it's his new favorite dragon quest now, i want it so bad, it looks so unreal on PS4

The DQ8 3ds soundtrack is still solid... I don't know why you would let that stop you from playing the definitive version of one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

Less involved economic/life sim stuff and more dungeon crawling and combat. If you see it super cheap then yeah go for it, but it doesn't trigger the obsessive part of my game like Stardew does

Played a little BotW... not sure how I feel about Master Mode. I don't like how how the extra enemy health means all those clever little set pieces with exploding barrels and boulders near the enemy camps aren't much use anymore, since it's not enough to kill and they regenerate.

Not the closest comparison, but I've realized that Stardew Valley and Recettear both occupy pretty similar gameplay loops for me. They're obviously very different systems and you don't have a homestead as such, but optimizing your store and stock in Recettear is close enough to cultivating your farm in Stardew, and you do the talking to townsfolk and dungeon crawling in both. The demo I played for Rune Factory 4 years ago had really ponderous combat.
