Kiss the Joycon to Kiss Zelda

I was getting a bit annoyed in XC2 in between losing Nia and getting the Nopon, but now that I have more than 1 party member it's a lot better. Plus I went to an Inn and levelled up, which also helped. :v: I've done most of the sidequests in the 2nd town you get to (I apparently can't remember the name of anything in this game). It's really quite fun. I do feel like it takes a long time to get WP and SP though. Also the Specials are kind of slow to charge up, especially when there's 4 levels of them. The requirement for one of my Blade's skills are to use his Level 2 special 6 times. It's tough to do this in random encounters because enemies will die before you charge it up that much. Which kind of leaves fighting higher level enemies, or bosses.

Does it ever go much into Attack effects? I know Break/Topple from the original, but what does Blowdown do?

You gotta learn to Cancel into Drive Arts. Auto-attacking is a three-hit combo, and you get a much better charge on your Special Meter (along with extra damage) if you save your Drive Art for the third hit of the auto-attack combo as it connects (for Rex with the Aegis sword, it's when he thrusts it into his target). Also stick Instruments into your Pouch. They make your Drive Arts recharge much faster.

Yeah I've been using Cancel, although the timing is tricky sometimes. I thought I could do it any time between the 2nd and 3rd strike of the combo, or when Rex is winding up for the 3rd strike, but like you say it does seem to be when it connects (the game did say that, but I dunno... it didn't seem to be working for me at first either). I have an accessory which increases the window allowed. If the strike has already landed, is that too late?

No you want to be doing just as the strike lands or slightly after.

You'll know if you nailed the timing because you'll see a transparent blue circle expand out from the point of impact. It's actually very forgiving about when you trigger the Cancel, the trick is knowing when the start of that window is.

What's the best place to get an 8bitdo controller? They're listed on Amazon but there are a ton of different sellers so I'm assuming that 95% of them are selling counterfeits.

The ones listed by 8bitdo are legit. I also bought the FC30 over the summer from Dynamic Distributor and it was legit. It even came with a free case for the controller.

As for non-Amazon, check Fry's Electronics. They sell 8bitdo and a bunch of other good obscure controller accessories.

At first, Daniel believed that he was having a massive hallucination. Eager to keep playing within the RPG to create his own adventure, he decides to go along for the ride until his delirium comes to an end.

Once inside the castle, Daniel is inhabited by a mysterious shadow. This dark spirit can communicate with Daniel, but not control him. The shadow has a simple goal: to escape from the prison of Daniel's body. There's a catch, though – the dark spirit can only escape if Daniel perishes.

Struggling against enemies in the castle, with the dark spirit attempting to murder him at every turn, Daniel finally discovers his goal: to kill Harnakon, the master of the castle, and free the Pure-Spirits who are trapped within. While the stage seems set for a typical role-playing adventure, Daniel will soon discover that everything is not what it seems...

Pinball FX 3 is a solid port. It is disappointing that there's so few tables at launch tho. I would probably double dip for the Bethesda pack since Fallout and Skyrim are great tables that saves your character between runs.
Also, protip: Top left of the main menu has a button that let's you play in vertical mode. It owns bones with joycons detached.

The Switch version will have update parity with all the other versions, yes. They've been tight-lipped on when exactly the AG&D expansion is coming but they still say it'll be out by the end of the year -- I kind of have a hunch the Switch version is gonna launch with it on Thursday, but we'll see

edit: if anyone hasn't been keeping up with the game since launch, we're talking about a big free update coming with 20+ guns, 20+ items, new room layouts, a new floor and boss, some balance changes, an easy/"generous" mode where a resources drop a lot more, and other stuff. The game had some balance issues when it came out but it's had some changes made since then and I've really come around to it. It's easily up there with Binding of Isaac for me

I thought it was fine with 1.10, personally, but I'll give this a shot. Getting an error with the new zip file, though.

I played like 4 hours of Xenoblade with it yesterday and it's a lot more comfortable than I expected. The sticks are pretty nice and the buttons and d-pad are responsive. I don't know that I'd want to use it for anything that required fast reflexes on the shoulder buttons, since they're a little small, but Xenoblade is very deliberate in how they're used.
