Instead of thinking "hm, I think I'm getting played here when someone is railing against a regulation that seems farcical on its face as regulations cost time/money to write and implement and they wouldn't exist for no reason" instead it's "heh, what a dumbass I'm so smart of course that's dumb " Reminds me of Sarah Palin in the 2008 campaign mocking the fact that National Science Foundation funds were being used 'to study fruit flies'. The fruit fly is one of the best things to use for genetic research because they breed super fast and they have an incredibly wide genetic match with humans when it comes to disease-causing genes. She had no idea about that and no desire to be educated.

But I've been disappointed b4 when some poo poo gets twisted out and the worst possible thing happens, like this getting to the supreme court really fast and ruled upon. Yep, think of this as the mirror of what the GOP did to the Clean Power Plan. They locked it up in court just long enough for Trump to win and reverse the whole thing, bing bing bong so simple. Doesn't matter that the CPP was clearly legal and constitutional, just the hold on stuff that happens when you litigate it is the point. e: also holy poo poo that list contains like four states with Republican executives, including Maine??? My neo-classical liberal / professional contrarian friend is on facebook arguing that killing NN is not a big deal / nobody will care or remember or even tell the difference within a year from now and actually common carrier regs would have ruined the internet. I was polite and empathetic when obama / reid were in power and he was declaring end times. Definitely won't make that mistake again

Trump can cry and whine about regulations all he likes but getting rid of most of those regulations is not even in the interests of the businesses that control whether or not congress cares. In general the established players are all about the government mandating you do more since it's just one more barrier to entry.

As far as I can tell, Republican voters don't know what Net Neutrality *is* - they've been told it's something to do with the internet remaining politically neutral (i.e. Twitter can't ban you for being a bigot.)

Gorsuch: I believe that my originalist reading of the Constituion reveals that the Founding Fathers intended for all means of distant communication, whether carrier pigeon, courier pony or slave-drawn hansom, should be subject to the maximum of Liberty possible. And if freedom means paying a special monthly fee to access certain so-called 'web sites', then so be it! Freedom isn't free!

They need every vote they can to pass whatever's coming out of conference, and if McCain isn't physically able to vote, that'll delay it, but at the same time, they're rushing to get a vote before Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) is seated.
