Nah, this was all backer money crowdfunded to make a game, not slap together some dream office that somehow can’t figure out how to keep their vanity project from flying off the rails at the slightest prod, all in service of this fantasy of Chris Roberts as a DevGod. They blew money on all sorts of exorbitant poo poo and haven’t come close to putting a real game together yet.

So given that CIG went all "This allegations are false and we'll fight it all the way" how will their cultist take it if they settle out of court? Its the most logical decision, but how will take CIG admitting that they hosed up majorly

They'll say it was clearly just a shakedown and CIG took the high road by having mercy and just giving CryTek the paltry $75,000 they obviously want.

CIG will publicly agree with this sentiment, probably in breach of the terms of the settlement, and so end up going to court anyway.

I think LA has less than 20 Artists/Coders, mind you there is legal, HR, the makeup artist assistant to the crack legal team, a cinematographer, film editor, subscription manager, couple of community people, the famous director of Wing Commander, a space door and a full time barista.

Yeah, the 200+ person office has the far more spartan coffee machine, Palpek, a fact Erin went to pains to point out after LA’s luxury indulgence story blew up. It was abruptly tacked-on to the ending of the Foundry Manchester tour.

So, I just heard something about the Star Citizen stuff at the 2014 Aus PAX. I can't verify this but I have no reason to assume it's based on lies. What was interesting is I don't think this has been ever mentioned there.

A friend of a friend had a pre-order pack which got him into the reveal of the FPS module, some kind of VIP exclusive event for certain backers.

Roberts gets up on stage and does the presentation and talks the talk about how great it is and so on and then a "lady space pirate" came up on stage and "took him hostage" in some kind of roleplay skit.

Then Squadron 42 stormed the stage and rescues Roberts, arrested the space pirate lady and put her in cuffs. Hooray, pirates have been stopped, all hail Squadron 42!

Then Roberts addresses the crowd. "What should we do with her?" he calls.

The crowd shouts in reply.

"STRIP OFF HER CLOTHES!"

Friend says he left soon after.

Even if it wasn't I'd question the wisdom of spending $12k on a coffee machine and hiring a barista using your crowd-funded money when the fantastically ambitious game you're supposed to be making is years behind schedule. That's not to say staff shouldn't have perks but there are more cost effective alternatives.

I actually wonder if anyone at CIG ever in his live wore a helmet, like for example a Goalie Mask that has a cage. Or actually a helmet with a visor, like a racing helmet.

Hint: you don't see the helmet, you don't even clearly see the bars of a cage, you just have a slight blurry thing because your focus is much further away.

I’ve been ambivalent about these new Star Wars films (the first two were perfectly bland pieces of product, a few snappy lines, a few decent enough action scenes but not a single interesting idea between them). But this new one really has me rolling my eyes out of my head.

There’s just no reason for these things to exist. The story was done. Going back for another go is just so pandering and cynical. But people seem to love it.

Another Chris Roberts meltdown, definitely. A nice dozen-page rant at CryTek, Skadden, and preferably the judge. About how he's worked so hard and sacrificed so much and this is all jealousy of his life which he DESERVES because of all the work he puts in. About how he's surrounded by incompetent idiots who can't even get doors to work and disgusting entitled backers who are so loving dumb think they own their spaceships BUT JUST WON'T BUY MORE SHIPS WHAT DO YOU FUCKERS WANT FROM ME. And how every day he has to smile and wave at that Thing who follows him around archiving everything he does.

That should cover all the bases. Maybe claim it was all Orwtin or Erin's fault for the final cherry om the cake.

I've seen this happen when an egomaniac exec goes down in litigation. I've seen a CEO try to walk out of their own cross-examination because the judge was being so impertinent by making them answer questions. I've seen complete breaks with reality where they pretend they aren't actually meeting with their lawyers, this is really a meeting about something else.

I don't know if Chris is in the Really Crazy bracket, but the people saying CIG's own massive collective egos might preclude a settlement are being more realistic than you might think.

To add to the "actively try to hide evidence" post and Loxbourne's "Chris pulls a Chris Roberts" post as well, there's one other thing CIG could do to make things worse: Nothing.

CIG could fail to file their defence within the required time which would let Skadden file for a default judgement and then apply for all its claimed damages and the injunction. As the amount claimed is undetermined, this would go to a disposal hearing (or whatever the US equivalent is) but I can't imagine the result would be cheap for CIG.
