Mustang's journey, the sick concentration barracks, and literally everything else has convinced me that my youthful dreams of joining the army I had when I was 19 were naive as gently caress. Sorry to hear about your girlfriend OP

God drat the Army is so loving dumb. PLs/PSGs and company command teams that are local on block leave are expected to walk through the barracks at someone point between 2100 to 0200 on News Years. CSM is out of his god drat mind if he thinks I’m going to do that while I’m on leave.

He is, he’s going to be there the whole time from 2100 to 0200. Apparently a CSM at some level above him told him and his peers to do so.

Also signing out for a pass and then finding out some dumb thing got everyone else recalled over the weekend was a great feeling of escape.

The III Corps CSM went hard in 2012 at Fort Hood: as the flag went up each morning, MPs rolled out to every gate and put up barriers for all the outbound lanes. Any car leaving post between 6:30 and 7:30 was redirected to a holding lot, where ID cards were taken. They had courtesy patrols cruising off-post PT locations for people in uniform, which was HIGHLY ILLEGAL/IMMORAL. Also the PXs had courtesy patrols during all working hours. Wanna use the elevator at the soldier service center? Better have a written profile on hand. It was a genius move, really: make everyone hate home station so much that getting shot at in Afghanistan is its own morale booster.

Oh yea if you're ever feeling bad because the Army is deep dicking you just keep it in perspective: some dude somewhere was the last specialist to get caught wearing his patrol cap at the gas station or whatever before the beret/pc policy changed. He had to stand in a CSM's office and get yelled at, probably a day or two after the policy went into effect that rendered his infraction irrelevant.

I got a major rear end chewing in the 90's because I replaced the buttons on my chest pockets with velcro (to make it easy to snatch my notebook/pencil out). I specifically remember the captain telling me how un-tactical it was. Then we went to velcro everything.

my squad leader got in trouble and had to do PT for a week with the division CSM because he got busted by the CSM because he didn't shave. he got busted at 7:30am, an hour and a half before his staff duty shift was going to end and the division CSM was making his rounds and doing PT with our battalion that day.

Why didn't the PL tell the CSM no? I'm not being ironic. "That's not gonna fly CSM. My squad leader isn't doing PT with you. My commander's name is blah blah blah. Take it up with him if you want me to do something." It's a dick move. But hell, he was being a dick too.
