Nah, it's been done for a while. It was done as soon as nobody (except, briefly, Rubio) tried to name anything specific they wanted to get immediately after Doug Jones was elected.

To be clear; the amount of political leverage Senate Republicans are leaving on the table is loving staggering. Any one of them, for any reason, could stymie this bare-rear end political process long enough to get Doug Jones seated and basically extract whatever concessions they want in exchange for their vote. It's what happened in the runnup to Obamacare's final passage, and why it ended up being more of a shitshow than it needed to be. Democrats made Harry Reid's life hell for weeks, because they knew, in their heart of hearts, that it was the last chance to sit at the buffet. There has literally never been a better opportunity for individual Republicans to fund their pet projects than this right here, and none of them are even trying, because all of them are that far in hock to their corporate masters.

After all, what better way to cast a collusive shadow on them than if Manafort goes running to them. The more they delay, the better the chance of people figuring out how much the bill will screw them and complaining. It's in their best interests to rush it through. After that it's a done deal and just "drat taxes" for most people.

It's a combination of a couple of things. One, it's the rare opportunity, as a regular person, to watch MBAs and (middling) corporate executives embarrass, prostrate, and prostitute themselves over and over on national television to win the approval of the most loathsome human being who ever got their own TV show. Like, seriously, on a weekly basis people with $200 dollar haircuts would be forced to run hot dog carts and don sandwich boards in the streets of New York and then fail miserably at it. Two, by the end of each season it turned into an interesting psychological drama as people who were all much smarter than Trump took turns manipulating his gross, squishy-brained ego in front of each other using the simplest and most childish tactics imaginable.

Seriously, if you want to know what John Kelly's day looks like, watch any episode of the Apprentice. Trump is 100% that person he played on TV.

That, and sometimes the contestants would actually do something interestingly corporate and cleverly functional, to remind you why business is actually a thing worth studying. I'm a sucker for watching competent people doing their jobs competently, in small doses.

Also, you forgot the Amazing Race. That's the only other reality TV show worth anything.

During my lifetime, "drat taxes" almost single-handedly brought down a president who was almost twice as popular as Donald Trump.

EDIT: also, people seem to have already figured it out. This bill is already less popular than actual tax increases of the past. Between this and Net Neutrality, Republicans have really started poisoning the well that is comfy white people's day to day lives.

There used to be a website, TelevisionWithoutPity that did sarcastic recaps of every episode of the Apprentice written by a guy who was really insufferable in a way that I found entertaining, but which you might not.

It's still archived here. That's season 5, the season with Brent, which is my favorite but also one of the worst. You could give that a shot, if you want to experience The Apprentice but don't want to hear Trump's voice.

I'd also add that I love the British Baking show on Netflix.

Every morning Barron Trump wakes up, shuffles to the White House kitchen where his mother stares out the window over her third breakfast martini. He takes a pop tart out of the cupboard, and heads to the living room to watch cartoons. There, he finds his two adult stepbrothers wrestling each other while chanting school fight songs. Sighing, Barron turns and heads back to his bedroom, but not before stopping by the bathroom to place a pillow under the head of his slumbering father, hunched atop the toilet, his phone pinched between prawn-like fingers. Every morning Barron Trump wakes up a little more.
