Honestly, if it wasn't for the Japanese VA and the dogshit pacing, Black Clover would just be a generic derivative shonen, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The thing that bugs me more was that this was a big enough deal to expand the block over.

Also its apparently already got a game coming stateside which is just loving nuts how much they want to blitzkrieg this crap into being a contender for forced popularity that rivals Sword Art Online. But if it didn't have the outright scam job feeling it'd just be a worse Blue Exorcist, and I somehow feel bad saying that even though the best part of that was the Protag being sensible and booze cat. Hell, even SAO at least "earned" what it has, but Clover feels like The Producers of Anime sans the banking on it failing to make a profit. Then again with how freaking Gungrave is getting new things in 2017-2018, maybe Yasuhiro Nightow and Madhouse will produce a new Gungrave anime for Toonami to use. Weirder poo poo has happened these days.

The second episode contained a single page's worth of manga content, and the rest was a whole-cloth filler flashback to the main characters' childhoods. I repeat, Episode 2 of this brand new shonen series was a flashback filler. EDIT: After a One Piece/Bleach-esque "First minutes minutes of the episode is the last five minutes of the previous one" style padding.

It's like they basically committed to going through as little of the manga in 52 episodes as they possibly could, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't so they can either just keep going or put out another season super quick.
