Nah, Scatter Arrow is just a terrible ability and should be completely reworked.

One really good rework would be to remove Hanzo from the game because every aspect of his kit is awful and leads to bad gameplay.

Scatter arrow is an ok concept, but it's such a garbage implementation. They way that you might use it, to shoot blind, never seems to work properly and I have been standing in a room dozens of times while Hanzos arrows bounce around and fail to hit me. But then you bounce it off the floor to kill someone right in front of you. They should set it so that the arrows don't start doing damage until X feet after the first bounce, but only if they also do something about the first part of that problem.

Scatter Arrow is just the worst effect in the game, as far as I'm concerned. It's either footshots or just random, and the former seems to be an unintentional use and the latter is unsatisfying as gently caress. Runner-up bad design features are Mei's ability to freeze people and McCree's flashbang, both for the same reason that total stun effects are both infuriating and a PitA to properly balance.

I like using bows in games so I can respect the intent of sniper bowman, but i’ve never actually used Hanzo because there’s just too many players mainlining him. I don’t get bothered by having a Hanzo on the team, or a Widow on the team. But i’ve started to abandon quickplay games where two players simultaneously slam pick Hanzo and Widow before we have anything useful.

Scatter arrow works but it works in a way that clearly wasnt intended. its terrible for blind fire clearing a room of softened targets but makes a fine shotgun that you have to miss to get a kill

give hanzo's ult to a new character and then delete him. i still need something like dragonstrike to combo with zarya ults, after all also delete widow. nothing about the game is made better by having sniper heroes

Make Hanzo arrows ricochet for 50% damage and just make scatter arrow a much larger circular aoe with lower max damage and a low distance fall off for dunking people hiding right around corners rather than instantly deleting whomever it hits just right

That way he actually has a team-function of moving tank chokepoints when they don't have the healers to sustain through the hail of arrows. It'd make him more powerful because he'd be pulled in line with other heroes who can deal damage vertically instead of having to plink at the Rein shield.

Everything about scatter arrow is fine except that multiple arrows from the scatter can connect on the same target. I say make scatter arrows do damage equal to how far is drawn (up to 125 per shard) but only one arrow can hit any given target. No crits. Now it's an effective area damage tool that can't just gib someone for 450 damage

Overwatch patch notes from some terrible reality where our idiot, petty, inbalanced whims are given validation -Widowmaker is removed from the game -Hanzo is removed from the game -Ana is removed from the game -All snipers are disavowed and no longer acknowledged as having ever existed in Overwatch lore -Winston is made into Handsome Winston, a normal regular human being, and anyone found connected to Winston porn in any way is permanently banned from Battlenet -Handsome Winston is removed from the game -All heroes are removed from the game except for McCree -New hero is live: UltraMcCree -UltraMcCree is only available as a playable option to PSN user Bluedeanie -UltraMcCree has all of Genji's passive mobility bonuses including increased run speed, double jumping and wall climbing -UltraMcCree has a passive version of Sombra's invisibility that has no cool down and automatically kicks in when he is not firing -UltraMcCree's stun time upon being hit by an enemy Flashbang is reduced to zero -Enemy flashbangs now heal UltraMcree 200HP -UltraMcCree is both a werewolf and a Frankenstein. His skins do not reflect this and there will be no comics released acknowledging this, but he just is because it is cool -UltraMcCree's Peacemaker is replaced with dual weilding the Farsight from Perfect Dark -UltaMcCree's lock-on time for Deadeye is decreased to zero seconds, and the Farsight retains its through-walls firing ability during the ult -Regular McCree's lock-on time for Deadeye is increased by 120 seconds -Volskaya Industries is removed from the game

Herstory Begins Now posted:People always say this, but over a ton of hours of hanzo, my damage output averaged out to ~90% of my hero damage output on soldier (elims/final blows/solo kills end up higher because hanzo does so much burst damage). I mean you're firing 120 damage projectiles into over-sized hitboxes, it's really not that hard to be hitting arrows. I've played every dps at length and they all feel comparably streaky. Soldier's damage is more consistent, since you're putting out a more continuous stream of damage. He's also more mobile, more durable, and more flexible. We can model this binomially as follows: I have a 37% accuracy on Soldier. Assuming reloads and some time to let recoil reduce, Soldier will fire about 50 rounds in 10 seconds. That's an average of about 351 damage over those 10 seconds (ignoring headshots and abilities). I have a 28% accuracy on Hanzo. Hanzo is pretty much continuously firing, meaning he'll put about 10 arrows in 10 seconds. That's an average of 350 damage over 10 seconds (again, ignoring headshots and abilities). Since Soldier shoots a lot of rounds, his damage has a standard deviation of about 65, meaning about 2/3rds of the time he'll do between 285 and 415 damage over those 10 seconds. Hanzo, on the other hand, has a standard deviation of 177 damage, meaning that 2/3rds of the time he'll do between 173 and 527 damage. Soldier's damage is betwen 300 and 400 about 56% of the time, while for Hanzo that's only 22% of the time. There's about a 3% chance that Hanzo misses every single shot he takes. That's why Soldier is more consistent. McCree also suffers from similar inconsistency, but he's hitscan, offers a strong CC, and also puts out somewhat more damage with primary fire (using my 51% McCree accuracy and about 12 rounds per 10 seconds he's closer to a mean of 400 damage than 350, though.) Hanzo also struggles a lot more against characters like Genji or Tracer (although scatter is very strong against Tracer). He's weaker against Winston or D.Va. He's weaker against Pharah. Hanzo sits in the hitscan meta slot (low mobility, medium range, peel for supports in backline, competes with Soldier/McCree/Widow, (and Junkrat??? not really sure where he fits in) as opposed to Pharah/Genji/Tracer), and generally the other characters essentially act as Hanzo+ something. Widow is Hanzo+range and mobility (though she is slightly worse up close, and generally suffers the same inconsistency faults), Soldier is Hanzo+mobility+healing+consistent damage, McCree is Hanzo+CC+range (hitscan is better at the ranges both characters thrive at). Basically, other characters are just better than Hanzo at Hanzo's job.

I seem to have trouble quite understanding how hitscan chars work...if you fire while your crosshairs are over them it hits period? no matter what?

Yes, "hitscan" basically means the game is scanning to check what's in your line of fire, and if something's there, it's an instant hit. Although it doesn't necessarily mean they were right under your crosshair, since hitscan weapons can still have randomized spread applied to them. By comparison, projectile weapons generate an actual object that moves through the game world, which only hits if/when it collides with a target.

AkumaHokoru posted:I seem to have trouble quite understanding how hitscan chars work...if you fire while your crosshairs are over them it hits period? no matter what? Sorta. When you click a button an invisible line projects from your player model and extends until it hits a game objects, your team, items, walls, your opponent. When it does it checks what the object is: player, item, etc and damages it if the object could be damage. This is generally instantaneous. Compared to projectiles, which are physical objects shot out of the player model which are their own objects that have a time to travel. To further expand upon this, not all hit-scan weapons align with the crosshairs given to them. You can find videos on youtube where Pro players will suggest specific sizes/shapes for each weapon based on the best engagement range. Otherwise, latency generally favours the shooter vs the target, so you don't have to predict your targets with a hitscan weapon like in older games.

Now I'm starting over on PC, I don't seem to get such good legendaries anymore. I've had no winter ones yet, but I got a bunch quite quickly on PS4. Could it be because I don't have much stuff already to improve the odds of an event legendary? So far I've had Plague Doctor Reaper and something else I don't like in the event. Since I'm guaranteed an event item each box, is it worth buying up all the cheap Winter stuff to improve the odds of a higher rarity event item?

It checks for rarity first and then item type. You can have every non-legendary and it won't increase your chances of getting a legendary. If you buy all the cheap winter stuff, you just increase your chances at seeing more duplicates. The only way to get more winter legendaries is to get more legendaries. Legendaries show up once every ~13 boxes, with obvious deviation. If we assume that you get 1 level per hour, and you get 27 boxes from arcade wins across the event, and you have every other legendary unlocked, you will need to play 162 hours in order to get every legendary (and likely everything else in the process), or about 7.3 hours per day of the event. berenzen fucked around with this message at 06:33 on Dec 19, 2017 |

Scatter I find is a weird ability for Hanzo to have honestly. Not because I think one shots are bad, but because its strange that he has a semi reliable one shot ability on top of his normal ability to get one shots via headshots. It feels redundant to have a character have two different methods of accomplishing the same feat.
