In case you're wondering JL had a 4.1 million weekend 5, putting it just below 220 million domestic, which it will hit sometime this week (possibly tomorrow). Look to JL bowing somewhere between 220 to 230 million total domestic.

Won't Last Jedi be enormously frontloaded, though? (Disclaimer: as I've said before, I think the numbers are very interesting but I don't really understand how they work.)

Any movie that makes that much opening weekend is going to be more frontloaded. But the film has an A Cinemascore which means it should have good legs. Justice League had a B+, which sounds good but for a big blockbuster isn't. That's the same Cinemascore hits like Superman Returns, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, and the Oscar winning Suicide Squad got.

Sure, but the audience score they have on Rotten Tomatoes (granted, perhaps less indicative then I may assume) seems to indicate that it has been divisive (as I've said elsewhere, I really liked The Last Jedi a lot, but I see how it would divide audiences) and couldn't that contribute to issues in relation to its word of mouth?

Well, in any event, I feel like Star Wars is going to end up at number two for the year. I'm not sure if it will make it to number one. I think Beauty and the Beast will be there when the final tally comes in.

It's possible, but it had the 2nd biggest opening ever behind Force Awakens so I'm thinking it'll come in closer to TFA's 2b rather than the 1.2b that Beauty and the Beast wound up with. It hasn't opened in China yet, though China doesn't seem to care about Star Wars admittedly. I would be very willing to take that bet, even with the audience score/critics score discrepancies on Rotten Tomatoes. I think this will be a good test of how much stock people put in that number, honestly.

Star Wars makes more money than most small countries do so I don't know why anybody is trying to pretend they're not going to be the top earner every year now that they're making star wars every year. Maybe every other year since they're only dropping numbered sequels every other Christmas, I guess

And while granted the type of sad idiots to do that probably are the same who'd see a movie multiple times, that's probably still not a significant audience.

Looking at that list, I just remembered that Hidden Figures, a biopic about African-American women who worked as mathematicians at NASA who have been unjustly ignored by history for their contributions to the space programme, won the Saturn Award for "Best Action/Adventure Film".

I have no idea what he meant when he said he wanted to make "a modern James Whale movie" but he directed a movie about James Whale so I'd hope he'd understand how to do so. Plus Javier Bardem was supposed to play the monster, and frank(enstein)ly, it seemed like the perfect choice. I'm actually real disappointed about the Dark Universe, I'd love a good horror cinematic universe.

Because Rogue One was a pretty good movie and definitely one of the best Star Wars films. It also told a really interesting story that people actually wanted to hear about. I don't know anyone l, including super fans, who wants to see Young Han Solo adventures. It's just not an interesting concept.
