The second one, because you can very easily misclassify an investment in human capital, which a down-home conservative mom very seldom makes, as simply purchasing a service from another person, which a down-home conservative mom does all the time.

As written, it's brutally abused and shortcuts civil liberties. On the other hand, Michael Flynn is the most recent poster child for its intended(ish) usage. Meaningful reform (legislatively and in practice) or an extended debate leading to scrapping it is probably ideal. I lean very slightly towards Burr's straight renewal being superior to whatever is going on here--because I have the utmost confidence that whatever fills that void in practice and in future legislation will be worse and more difficult to untangled/end.

Warner's a Democrat who has been pretty no-bullshit about the investigation so I don't think this is going to be some "we the Centrist Shills support the firing of Bob Mueller" kind of deal.

They have loudly demonstrated what actual influence the American people have on the party’s decision. As I posted in the other thread, this ballot is actually a little bit more ambiguious than previously reported. Democrats are arguing that because he put an X through Gillispee, you can't assume the slash was to void the vote for Simonds. That's a reasonable argument but I do not know what the standard to determine voter intent is. If you asked me who this person voted for, I'd say the R candidate, but not that it is "clear". I don't know how confident the judges need to be on this. I do not know if this means it's coming down to the merits of voter intent, or if the judges had them argue that point as well and are deciding both the argument about if they can hear the challenge and what the intent was at the same time. Decision is, apparently, final: https://twitter.com/JWPascale/status/943560876266803200

WampaLord posted:All of this anger over someone suggesting that maybe we could do better in America. It fascinates me to see people who react this angrily to being told that the world could be a better place. No, it's anger at someone who knows nothing, has a condedcendingly simple solution that betrays how little they understand, then when it's pointed out why it's a dumb solution, acts like those are just excuses and shows that people haven't tried hard enough. You may recognize this is the exact same process as people who talk about bootstraps. I guess we shouldn't be angry at them either, they just want to make the world better. Oh wait, this exact same chain of thought becomes totally valid when applied to a country instead of a person, because logic is hard.
