Really excellent palette, especially with this one. I feel like I can never get lighting like this anywhere close to correct -- it's always too flat, and when I try to adjust the palette it comes out... weird. I don't know.

Good work.

If you sit down to raw without a plan or idea, most of the time that's how it'll end up. I like to keep a few low-stress ongoing projects on the backburner so (in the rare moments that I have free time to draw for myself) I'm not stuck without an idea. Some larger project that is easily broken down into smaller chunks is perfect for keeping inspiration going. Right now, I'm working on an animal alphabet. Try something like designing the images for a tarot deck, or drawing each of the demons from the Key of Solomon - something that gives you prompts so you don't have to struggle to find an idea. It helps me anyway.

Yeah, now that I think about it the periods during which I was the most active I always had some kind of easy series-like thing to latch on to, like certain sceneries or characters I wanted to draw. I can't really think of anything like that that I would even want to do though, so I'm still stuck in limbo.

Maybe I should give abandoned villages and cities another shot for my sceneries. Hm.

Anyway, for today just a quick sketch before bed to celebrate the new Splatoon mode.

Having a specific project to work on helps a lot with productivity. I've started drawing comics specifically because it's excellent, consistent practice that works towards something.

I've just taken to drawing totally normal fruits and vegetables whenever I don't know what to draw/want to do something relatively easy.

The daily doodles thread used to be a monthly thread, with a new theme each month. I liked it, because if you were drawing a blank on what to draw, you could just default to something in the theme. It also challenged you to try new things! I tried to change themes after about a month of having the BODE theme - you might notice the current first post names birds as the theme - but I couldn't change the thread name and anyway :effort:

It's still easy to latch onto a theme, like say DRAGONS

Did a drawing of a Yuki-onna

Nothing special obviously but I had tried to draw this picture wayyyyyy back at the start of the year. Got frustrated and gave up on it. It felt good to go back and finish something I had previously abandoned, even if my grasp on anatomy is still...tenuous, at best.

Well some issues I can see right off the bat, too much outline on the lips, not enough definition in the noses, the thickness and darkness of the lines in both seem kind of random. I'm at the library due to power-outage induced WIFi failure so I don't really have the time to expand but I hope that's at least a little helpful!

Here are some sketches from this weekend's life drawing session with one of my favorite models.

Fallen Rib

On the girl I think you can actually get away with less detail in the face (the outline of the cheek is giving it enough implied structure), but you need to make the nose, eyes and mouth line work more solid. The hair desperately needs that same implied structure and strong lines; right now it just looks like a mess.

Take a couple (literal)steps back from the girl and think about how her face is the really weird and engaging, but the surrounding details (hair) don't bolster that effect.

The second one, I Radio hit all the right points in their critique. I'm not sure if t can be improved; it just looks like a quick and dirty sketch.

It is a quick and dirty skecth. I should have been more specific. In my last drawing, I had lots of problems with proportions, that is what I was working on. Since you guys didn't bring that up, I am pretty happy with myself. Prettying up the pic is something I can do. Appreciate it guys.

Radio du Cambodge, I hope to get on your level eventually. Those are awesome.

I love the colors here!

Just been messing around more with stuff on the new tablet. My Note Pro kicked the bucket like four months after I got it, Samsung refused to replace it because it was too old, so I found a Surface Pro 3 with a Wacom Bamboo pen on OfferUp that's absolutely amazing and doesn't feel like it's going to crumble in my hands.

Eventually I'll get back into doing photorealistic stuff, but I just don't have the time and patience right now so cartoons it is.

My goons, I have been very lax in my drawing, and had around 200 unread posts to plough through in this thread, so I went back to Drawabox and spent the last month redoing the texture exercises:

Felt good, and I could definitely feel out what I was doing a lot more than my first stab at it a while back.
