It's not the first time there's been a no-rank-needed faction ship sale, so it shouldn't be that much of a shock.

You’ll be fine. We’ve got people who have sunk months into the game and have billions of credits who still mostly fly stuff like the Vulture (reasonably cheap mid size heavy fighter) because it’s fun as heck.

Yeah, I'm no billionaire, but I have a tricked out Anaconda and Cutter. They're both sitting in mothballs at the moment, because it's way more fun to take my Type-6 on a spin around the galaxy. I almost took my exploration-fitted Hauler, but I wanted a chance to play around with the new repair limpets. Small/medium/budget ships are a blast.

So the general gist is that the type-10 is good for thargoid shooting, but has to Hull tank and is quite slow. It is not so good at all for regular combat due to the small power distributor, and maybe can eek out 30ly jumps for travels.

Is there something unique about the T10 that makes it better against Thargoids? I feel like I'm missing something.

I'm pretty pissed at fdev with this new cg this week. It's a big slap in my face when I spent a good month and a half grinding fed rank and God knows how much I spent in credits on donation missions.

They are giving a 20% discount on some of the ranked ships and making rank not required to buy for a week.

With all that money I could have fully upgraded a type 10.

Where is this? So you can pick up any federal ship without the required massive rank grind? On sale?

That seems really nuts. drat maybe I should sell my clipper for an FAS for a change. Although the clipper is really fun to fly.

I’ve done a bunch of tinkering with the type 10 and I actually think it’s a pretty good all around ship. I have an A ranked grade 4 FSD on it and with that, stripped down and D ranked it gets 35ly for passenger missions or exploring. Loaded completely for bear and bristling with guns while still hauling tons of cargo and passengers it gets 22-26ly. It’s fun as hell to fly with dirty drives and feels really big. I like it more than an anaconda honestly for the cockpit view.

The only problem is it is so wide and big you get loitering warnings all the loving time.

The view is nice but there is something about DBX how there is detailed elements all around you while most other ships have them mostly in front and kinda far away. Also, you've seen Asp's cockpit, its bare metal as gently caress which imo works in a space-psycho suicide bike Viper III but not so much in a comparatively huge and expensive Asp.

I don't have the biggest ships such as Conda but Python is pretty awesome when you look to the right and realize that its huge, feels like you are driving a bus or some sort of huge road machinery.

My brief stint in an anaconda cockpit was cool in VR, but if you’re an immersion sperg you’ll be bothered that they didn’t seem to mind replacing the regulation size soccer arena to build it.

The best thing about anaconda in VR is how it feels like you're flying around sitting on a skyscraper, and just how goddamn agile it is, for a skyscraper.

Can confirm that Asp is the best in VR though, mostly due to the window between the legs thing, which really helps with the feeling of speed when flying near things.

I don't have VR but it's a amazing looking at the hauler and the DBX cockpits in terms of "what you can see". The hauler is a bit constrained in what you can view, but then again, the ship was designed from port to port hauls, not combat (or deep space exploration). The DBX is "holy crap I nearly have a full hemisphere of view".

In other news, Lich is unaccessible unless you have a 98 LY jump drive. Guess you won't be able to see the first confirmed exoplanets then.

There are no regulation size soccer arenas. As long as a pitch falls within certain maximum and minimum dimensional thresholds it's fine.

This means every team's pitch is a different size, hence the "home advantage" you get for playing on your own turf.

My DBXes (I've had three distinct ships. Yellowjacket, Dreamsicle, and The Green Machine) feel like favorite beat up old 4x4s that I knew could drive me to the north coast of Alaska tomorrow and my AspX, Chisu, was more like a pretty nice looking box truck that I didn't mind pulling up to jobs in, but I wasn't proud of it. I ripped out the FSD and stuck it into an Orca for a while, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

The T7 is the most space-truck ship in the game.

The only good reason for a T9 is to take your less poopsock-tier Commanders out with fighters, otherwise it wasn't much worth the hassle. Maybe again with the mining revamp in the dev queue.

I am enjoying easy-mode PvE in the Python, though. With the four beam turrets on top and a plasma accel under the nose... fire phasers and [photon/quantum/proton/quark-no-wait-we-used-that-for-a-bartender's-name] torpedoes. I would never take this ship out of Solo. I only Open in my T7, The Red Herring, or my Viper Mk3, Twist and Shout.

I didn’t fly the T7 long and it fills an awkward hole because it can’t land at medium pads and is a brick, but drat if I don’t still have a soft spot for that ship.

FDev please release obnoxious amounts of lights as a cosmetic but only for the space trucks.

How were the beams on the python? Any heat issues? I’m using a python to unlock the last few engineers I never bothered to do so I’m ready for the engineering changes in the next few months but I intend to turn it into my PVE/mission boat after that.

The only thing it adds is the ability to land on planets and drive around in a moon Rover thing. It's cool, and useful for gathering materials but it's fine to skip it until you get a feel for the game. All of the planets you can land on are pretty much the same, crater filled deserts.

I don't have it and I've had a ton of fun and sunk a bunch of time into the game, have a nice little fleet going, etc, but man it would be nice to get in on some of the ridiculously high paying transport jobs that require a landing module, or planetary scan missions that you can stack up (I don't know if that still works).

E and I haven't yet figured out if engineering is part of the expansion so I haven't done anything with that
