I thought bitcoins were supposed to replace today's currency. If it keeps fluctuating like this, isn't it essentially worthless on a practical level? Especially if it's worth thousands of dollars?

I know this probably answers my own question, but it looks like people are holding onto bitcoins just because a machine told them it's worth thousands.

The market cycle is nothing new, and I think that now with digital currencies we can finally move on from the boom/bust cycle by simply accelerating the process such that the market crashes hundreds of times a day so you only have to wait a few minutes to purchase goods when the market rallies

Seriously, do drugs
You can pay more for bitcoin when you're paying with monopoly money, and the exchange doesn't have to actually cash anyone out at that price. You get either USDT or other funbux.

There's currently $1 Billion of Tether tokens out there:

And this is where you need to go to sue Tether, when they refuse to redeem your tokens for USD:

The long answer is that Coinbase runs GDAX and they jack the exchange rate to make it easier to swallow their high transaction fees, which get you coming and going. The short answer is lol bitcoin unregulated.

I mean, if you put $1000 into bitcoin and wait a couple days you could easily find $240 in your profits. I don't know why you would want to though, when you could instead take that money + another $1000 and buy more bitcoin for even more free money.
