Thanks to everyone who took part in and watched the first Clunker Kings tourney! We had a lot of fun and it seemed pretty popular so we'll likely run another one in January sometime.

Of course, that's not what you are interested in, you want to know who won(me a lot) and who got owned(Beefy sometimes), so here's the final standings:

Congratulations to Johntherussian, who is the first Clunker King! He wins bragging rights. We'll see if he gets to keep his junk crown next time!

EDIT: Also, thanks for bearing with me early viewers and participants while I sorted out why streaming was dropping me to 15-40 FPS. Once that got resolved things got a lot easier!

I think a flamer build came up against my 2 heavy gauss Sleipnir and lost, or was that during the pre-tourney games? I forget.

I've downloaded the stream after I sorted out my framerate and will be editing and uploading to youtube over the next couple of days, but if you want to watch the tourney as a whole the VOD is available on my twitch channel here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/209844212

Woodio brings down Zernach's Executioner dressed as santa?

Woodio takes down johntherussian in a battle of 2 great clan mechs:

Cluncho watches over the corpse of Woodio's poor viper, it got trashed once the distance was closed:

Cluncho brings down Q_Res' Direwolf with the pinpoint alpha of 2xHeavy gauss:

Zernach poses for a glamour shot after having given Cluncho's laser Banshee the claws:

johntherussian ends zernach in a tight match that was won by johns ability to roll damage:

john is getting cocky and brings out the only Ice Ferret of the night and puts on a great show while sporting a nice camo:

Commoners first showing of the night. When we saw the 30 vs. 35 tons selected we all knew what was coming. One of the closest games of the night, commoners was looking to win when john finally clutched it out:

Woodio finally brings johns reign of terror to an end, closing the distance on john's laser ebon jag and blasting him to pieces, everyone cheered:

Now this was a surprise, 2xHeavy Gauss Sleipnir vs. an 2xHG+ML's Annihilator. john was looking really good and was moving in to finish cluncho off when he suddenly keeled over as if he just had a stroke:

The first peenix hawk of the night takes down the only Shadowhawk of the night as Cluncho and Squat faces off. Squat was looking good in the midgame, having landed some pretty heavy shots on Cluncho but Cluncho managed to out-lame him in the end, using the squares/stones for cover he finally put him down:

Clunchos 8xMPL TOP DOG stands over the corpse of Zernach's ruined Zeus. As soon as Cluncho shot off Zernach's beehive/stinkfist this game was over:

Had cluncho been able to keep the distance between 3-400 meters he might have taken this game but as soon as Kyle got close those SRMs blew him up and the dream was dead:

Blackdog420 brought the only Trebuchet of the night and Kyle the only Panther, it was a pretty close game but Blackdog managed to finish him off. Snazzy paintjob on the Trebuchet:

Commoners shows everyone why he's the best peenix hawk pilot, jumpjetting all over Blackdogs classic build MX90 as he tries to land shots. Unfortunately commoners was too good and the game inflicted a 500kp/h penalty and stuck him inside the terrain and blew one of his legs. Yes that happened.

IS vs. Clan showdown as Blackdog and Woodio squares off in a Rifleman and an ebon jag. In the end the Rifleman was no match for the massive firepower of the ebon jag in a pretty one-sided game:

Commoners is up again, this time against CLuncho's 2xHeavyGauss Sleipnir (really dude? this is like the 4th time...). No pic of the result but let's just say that the back of the sleipnir was not match for the +100 damage alpha of the HLL Kodiak, spearing him on a massive beam of lasers:

We have arrived at the last match of the night, commoners brings out the "special boy" and Blackdog brings out the loyalty Cataphract with LPLs. This was a real slugfest with the special boy not giving an inch to the Cataprahct, pounding him with hot lead:

The special boy needs a nap:

And it's over!

Thank you everyone who showed up, even if only to spectate, it was a great night!
As for strong builds, as you can see people pretty much picked different mechs every match (well...except for you know who) but the star of the night is probably the Bushwacker. Super tanky, great hitboxes, high damage.
Mechs purpose built for 1v1 also worked really well. High damage output on low tonnage mechs with really low ammo works very well.

All of them, but I was running the X1 with 1xAC/20+SnubPPC. Works really well in 1v1,

All futures point to a world of filled holes.
X1/X2 for good all-purpose brawling. X2 IS significantly faster torso/arm movement, but X1 has extra bal slot (extra mg matters up close).
P1 is the missile boat if you wanna load up 6xsrm6 or something.
S2 makes a great assymetric 20/laser bitch or light missile boating (2nd highest hardpoints at 4)
P2 is good for loving around with more laserstacked builds (lpls or snubs) but is generally considered weakest.

Despite the sale being only 35% instead of 50% there are a couple of good heroes if you are looking to spend money.

CP-S: Good ballistics assault. The "new" hotness is 2xHeavy Gauss, the old one is 4xUAC/5's.

HMN-P: Get it if you want to be able to run 8 missile slots on a huntsman. Nothing really special, it's just cool.

MAD-IIC-SC: If you like brawling, get this one. 2xLBX20, 4xSRM6, great hitboxes, wreck face.

Bushwacker HiGH ROLLER: All Bushwackers are good, I would buy them all before I spend real cash on this one.

RGH-R: Great energy hardpoints makes this a good 3xLPL mech. Really tanky. Personally I prefer the TDR-9SE for 3xLPL because that's the OG 3xLPL mech.

The BSW-HR is actually pretty much the worst variant.
But on the other hand (and speaking of LPLs)it can do this, which is hilarious. If semi-retarded.

e: additional note - you can make a 114kph 3LPL bushwacker. It's difficult, but you can do it. I have. It's 100% pants-on-head stupid, but ridiculously fun.

CW still bad. You will need an invite to a goon unit. Post your in game name and which unit you want to join, and someone should get you. GIRL for Clan CW, WoL for Inner Sphere CW. Otherwise just get in one of the three discords or the mumble to find people to play with.

Get on the Discord in the OP. You need a friend request before being able to invite, easier to co-ordinate there. BeefySupreme in-game, Beef... on the discord.

Orion IIC - They're all pretty good, considering they can be made into mini-Atlas builds. LBX20, SRM6s for days.

Hunchback IIC - They're less armored versions of their IS counterparts. But they're clan, so they tend to boat more. The A is a Laser Vomit, B can SRM brawl or LRM/ATMs, C has ballistics mounts... you could take small engine and go dual LBX20/UAC20, you'll be slow as gently caress but able to hill hump poo poo.

Highlander IIC - I've tried to make a brawler with this thing, but it's just too slow overall. They do better as long range support. My HGN-IIC has Gauss, ERLLs and a bitchload of LRMs because I loving hate myself.

I'd say, get the ON1-IIC... whichever one floats your boat. I personally went C variant. The HBK-IIC-A is my favorite out of the clanbacks.

Skip the Highlander unless you really want an Assault... but there's just so many better Assaults to be had.
