For those interested in DG, the Eavy Metal recipe is:
Base - Death Guard Green
Soft shade - Athonian Camoshade / Water 1:1
Deep line shade - Rhinox Hide / Caliban Green 1:2
REAPPLY BASECOAT WHERE NEEDED
Highlight - Ogryn Camo
Highlight - Kreig Khaki
Highlight - Kreig Khaki / White 1:1
Final highlight - white

The astronomical number of ways to build a Carnifex makes me wish I were confident enough to magnetize. Two come in the box and I was thinking about making one a "dakkafex" and one a "meleefex" but even then there's tons of options. Are there the proper bits in the Carnifex Brood kit to build a Screamer Killer? That looks like the right choice for a meleefex for my Kraken army. The dakka one would go in a Kronos detachment.

Been spending my Christmas break making a display board for my army. Progress shots below:

Just under a 2x2' foot frame (the boards are 1" thick). Added a backstop to corral the display.

Roughly laid out my idea with cut 1" styrofoam and some things I picked up here and there - it's an Eldar board (my army has roses on it) so maybe the idea is a maiden world that Biel-Tan protects so fiercely.

My forearm is dead tired but I carved out cliffs and burnt a waterfall into the left (with a river following the cliffs into the cavern below)

It's going to be a winter landscape so the river will likely be frozen along with the waterfall - I'm not quite sure how I want to do the waterfall itself yet, whether it's silicone caulking which is painted up, or what. The river itself I'll go buy some woodland scenics real water or whatever and mix in a bit of paint over two layers. Not sure yet what I'm going to do with the backboard sticking up, I could add some short, winter pines and paint it as a night scene (with a front light on the leading corner of the board) but I'm not sure.

Next steps are to apply a thin layer of plaster over all the styrofoam then paint it up.

They're easybuilds with no weapons options.

Still loving great tho, they're chunkier than you'd think and just great models.

I’d be more concerned if they actually had options in the book, but since there’s only one it works for me. Hell for that price I might even take advantage of the Tri-Lobed rule.

According to all the local managers here, no one bought less than 3 at a time. Some dude came in to the largest store and bought 9.

For what it's worth 8th edition is semi-playable and worth a shot if you have an army sitting around; the ruleset has got birth pains but the overall consensus is that it's faster and much better supported than the last editions. Your mileage may still vary compared to other games out there still better than tanks.

Army prices are still bonkers but that's :gw: for ya.

Doesn't help that the Plaguespewer dude in the box is A) touting a worse weapon than the other two options the Blightlords get and B) technically an illegal combination outside the box's specific datasheet as he has no melee weapon.

That and the codex termies have a minimum size of 5. If you are doing a hq and his bodyguards why not make them deathshrouds, who actually are bodyguards and who actually can be fielded in squads of 3.

Doesn't even work well as a booster as you'd still need another box of Blightlords to max out the squad and give you the numbers for that second heavy weapon.

So briefly scanning the thread OP and the last couple pages, it looks like 40k might be Fun again.
Last I played was 4th (5th?) edition I think? The one with the good Kill Team rules and Imperial Guard was still Imperial Guard not whatever the new dumb name is.

I sold all my old unpainted models, which if I am going to play again leaves me with a new army choice to go for, so I have a couple questions.

What's cool and good, and looks good? Preferably not a lot of models. Trying to paint and maintain my old guard army burnt me the hell out on painting.
When last I played the army for lazy people like me was Grey Knights since it was like 4 models to an army list and they were all silver.
However some of the army pieces and paintjobs you are all sharing makes playing a bad-guy army look freakin' sweet for a change. Is there a nurgle/chaos/cool elites baddie army list that'd suit someone diving back in? Or alternatively, is a heavy monster Tyranid army not-garbage yet?

Nidzilla is a viable and fun option again, new 'Nid codex has a lot of goodies for the bigger bugs, with a lot of newer ones since 5th edition.

Elite Death Guard is also a pretty doable thing to with the new army building stuff. Go all Terminators or load up on daemon engines and you'll have a blast.

8th is more fun than any previous edition. All the codex releases so far (and there have been a lot) have ranged from pretty solid to very good. There are some great value Getting Started sets and easy build kits. Nids are good again, and the Dark Angels have a better codex than vanilla marines. Specialist Games are back and they are good. Even AoS is rumoured to not be poo poo now.

GW have marketing and community outreach and it is glorious.

Seriously, this is the best GW have been, on pretty much all fronts, for at least ten years. Probably more.

At least the Helsreach guy doesn't disappoint. Each video has more production value than the last and they're released fairly often considering how much work must be involved in making them.

The Lord Inquisitor guy is promising a status update next month so that's something I suppose.

The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
So are all the Land Raider variants and custom-built Land Raider options in Chapter Approved only for Open Play and not for Matched Play, since the information is located in the Open Play section of the book? The custom LRs still don't look good enough to be overly-competitive for Matched Play...
