Yeah it was Sunderland. He got a bonus for some reason and was supposed to give his agent like a £1m cut of it. He claimed he had fired his agent before all of this would have happened, but it didn’t quite work out for him.

Jose Mourinho posted:

After the Burnley draw, the Portuguese bemoaned City's spending power, having signed full-backs Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy for £102million.

"When you say a club like Manchester United, do you think Milan is not as big as us?" Mourinho asked. "You think they are not as big as we are? Do you think Real Madrid are not as big as we are? You think Inter Milan is not as big as we are? There are many big clubs and you say big clubs, I know what is a big club.
"One thing is a big club and another thing is a big football team that you know is not one of the best teams in the world, so when you speak about responsibilities to win the Premier League, Tottenham does not have that responsibility. Tottenham is not a club with the same history as us. Arsenal doesn't have the responsibility to win it, Chelsea doesn't have the responsibility to win it.

"Manchester City buy the full-backs for the price of the strikers, so when you speak about big football clubs, you are speaking about the history of the club."

Mourinho has spent £286.2million on seven players since he was appointed United manager and when that figure was mentioned, he replied: "Is not enough, is not enough. And the price for the big clubs, the price for the big clubs is different from the other clubs, so the big, historical clubs are normally punished in the market for that history
So the boys are doing what they can and they are doing fine, you say seven points from 16 or 15, something like you say, I say last two matches we had 15 chances to score and we concede three S[**t] goals and an amazing free-kick.

"So the boys do what they can, they are trying hard with the problems and injuries we have. I am not happy with the result, and against Leicester, but I am happy with my players."

Yeah that's definitely the reason you're drawing with Burnley and Leicester and losing against Bristol.

E: OK transfers obviously play a role. United have bought poo poo for years now, and Mourinho himself has been guilty of that as well. The team still needs massive overhauls despite the millions upon millions spent, but come on Jose. Spending isn't even remotely the biggest problem right now.

He's right in that top tier teams have to spend ridiculous money on mediocre players, but that's all he's right about. I think it's time to replace Jose with SAF's statue. The end result will be about the same.

It's a bit weird on people (not fans because they're invariably idiots) to talk about utds expenditure while ignoring that the team ahead of them spent 150% of that.

The press are turning on Jose already, as evidenced by him being heavily misquoted following the Bristol match. He was in full magnanimous mode following that but the press managed to misquote him into being a sore loser.

He's a twat, is and always will be a twat, but the press are having a field day with him at the moment. In any other season, this United side would be cruising top of the table, I think he's finding it really hard to deal with Pep hitting peak Pep in Jose's special "second season".

The problem with this argument is that the last three clubs they've come up against are 16th (Leicester), 52nd (Burnley), and 100 (Bristol City) and they've managed to get two draws and knocked out of a cup from that. Doesn't really matter what City/PSG have spent when they perform poorly against the clubs that they've outspent by up to 1250%.

This said, Burnley also have other impressive scalps away from home this season, Leicester are a good side at home and anything can happen in a cup match. Bristol played really, really well, to just say United were poo poo does them a disservice. Perspective matters, sure you can claim poor defending for Burnley's first, but there's nothing you can do about a loving peach of a free kick that no keeper in the world is keeping out.

There are obvious problems in this United team and cracks are showing with Mourinho as I genuinely don't think he expected City to hit the level they have nor do I think he knows how to bring United on another level to compete with that. I think this squad is Jose's best dice throw and the shock is showing through the team at the moment. Earlier in the season, the draws from last season were wins, they're back again now as 2 points lost and the pressure of getting through Christmas unscathed has cracked the team. 2 points from 6 against Burnley and Leicester is a disappointing Christmas for a team that should have been mounting a title challenge.

Who would they be cruising against? One point above Chelsea, City would be around there generally, and Tottenham, Arsenal and some other team, oh right, Burnley are keeping up pressure.

Not really, it looks like you're inexplicably crying about the press being anti-United (they aren't) because they ignore that City has spent more (they don't). Kyle Walker for £50 M was brought up a lot until City started steamrolling or otherwise winning every game. If they started losing it would be brought up a lot more, I promise you. The press love to go on about how much City have spent when they get the chance. Right now the results are keeping that quiet.
